SPF

Please may I have some recommendations for a good daily SPF? I've not really bothered before - have used a day cream with SPF if I remember.

I've got a lovely Elemis day cream and use all sorts of serums and nice things from the Cult Beauty AC. So it would feel wrong to bung my kids sun cream on my face afterwards!

Thanks

I like the body shop skin defence and also the fenty one

nicknamehelp · 02/04/2021 12:14

just got the body shop skin defense one and love it as it sinks in and unlike others I've tried doesn't leave me with a white face.

Mugginyouleftrightandcentre · 02/04/2021 12:19

So it would feel wrong to bung my kids sun cream on my face afterwards!

The thing is, your kids suncream is probably just as good as anything you would get from Cult Beauty, and a lot cheaper too!

I use Boots Soltan factor 50, just the body one, for my face! I know that probably wouldnt be suitable for everyone, but after a few SPF misses (in particular Biore Watery Essence, awful stuff!) I have settled on that.

I have heard good things about Heliocare though too Smile

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 02/04/2021 14:11

I thought this was going to be about Gwyneth Paltrow's sun cream advice they were talking about today on loose women 😁

I have a nice neutrogena face SPF that I bought from Amazon I think OP! Does the job well and doesn't break me out.

Blahblahblahyadayadayada · 02/04/2021 14:29

La Roche Posay Anthelios.
Altruist.

PrincessWatermelon · 02/04/2021 17:25

@StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind what was the thrust of the convo with Gwenyth?

PrincessWatermelon · 02/04/2021 17:26

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have a look. I don't want something greasy under a foundation.
@StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind what was the thrust of the convo with Gwenyth?
Gwyneth did one of those 'this is my morning routine' videos for Vogue - in it she said 'I'm not one of those people who slather myself in sunscreen' and 'I just place it on the points where the sun hits' and then proceeded to put a tiny bit on her nose and cheeks and then did a quick rub all over. She was also talking about sunscreen being toxic (as well as moisturisers having 'anti-freeze' in them). She then put a moisturiser on over the top of her SPF as well, which is a no no, because it dilutes and disturbs the film of the SPF.

The 'skincare community' online have been losing their shit over it!

Anotheruser02 · 02/04/2021 17:59

Gwyneth dots in on the high points like highlighter.

paradyning · 02/04/2021 18:19

Gwyn is clearly a dick.
I'm liking my coolea sample from space nk. Also a darphin one I had was great.
La Roche Posay is good too

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 02/04/2021 18:24

Gwyneth is clearly seeking attention again! At least it's a change from obsessing over all things vaginal- crystal eggs, vagina candles and steaming are some of her offerings aren't they?!

This is the SPF I have OP, it's pretty good:

Neutrogena Clear Face Liquid SPF 30, 89 ml / 3 oz. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B004D2C5FY/ref=cmswwrcppapiglccfabcF9M7CFKTX9116DVF164S??encoding=UTF8&psc=1

WednesdayalltheWay · 02/04/2021 18:29

I know full well I should be wearing SPF but nearly all the ones I've tried make me break out. I've settled on Garnier Amber Solaire Sensitive advanced face fluid SPF 50. Helio are was also good but ridiculous price for everyday.

Can anyone on here honestly say they apply face suncream regularly throughout the day on a daily basis?

workshy44 · 02/04/2021 18:41

I don't know, she looks amazing and has great skin. I don't think we need factor 50 24/7 and at that level it is full of chemicals
I got an appointment once with an A list derm and she pretty much said the same thing, sunscreen at that level is awful for the skin and you don't need as much of it as seem to be advised. Our skin does need some sun for Vitamin D which a lack of is incredibly aging. it is a balance

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 02/04/2021 18:49

No I don't wear it on a daily basis I admit, I don't wear it throughout the winter when I'm barely outside anyway, and if I am I certainly won't burn. I don't care that much about wrinkles in honesty.

But if I know I'm going to be outside a lot, which is a lot in the spring and summer, I will wear it. I was stupid as a teenager and when we went on holiday to Greece I sunbathed without any sunscreen, trying to get rid of the horrible spots I had. I burnt horribly on one side of my face so I do try to be careful in the sun now.

I still think gwyneth's suggestion was stupid!

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 02/04/2021 18:50

I also don't think she has amazing skin. It's not bad in any way at all, she is a beautiful woman with a great bone structure but I wouldn't describe her skin as amazing.

ohidoliketobe · 02/04/2021 19:02

I use No7 Protect and Perfect facial SPF
www.boots.com/no7-skincare/no7-skincare-anti-ageing-skincare/no7-protect-perfect-advanced-facial-suncare-50ml-10286747?cm_mmc=bmm-buk-google-ppc--no7--DSA+-+No7+-+Skincare+-+Anti+Ageing-_-UK_Brand_No7+Manufacturer_Exact&gclsrc=aw.ds&gclid=CjwKCAjwgZuDBhBTEiwAXNofRHgZiqK7WpcFiqRECHm6aPD1ZvDEKn7YsV3fHXlOVPNktjKH8sF7ORoCZhwQAvD_BwE

I wear it daily (yes even in the winter), it's just part of my skincare routine now.
No breakouts for me, and I use it in place of primer most days (if actually wearing make up that is)

Mugginyouleftrightandcentre · 02/04/2021 19:08

I don't know, she looks amazing and has great skin.

She clearly has sun damaged skin, as you would if you reside in California and barely wear sunscreen on your face!

However, she is obviously happy her skin and she is a beautiful woman. I do think some people (not on here, online generally) are going a bit OTT in their reactions. Sunscreen is important though, especially if you use any acids or retinols!

Twinkie01 · 02/04/2021 19:13

Lancaster do a brilliant one which is factor 50 and has a tiny bit of sparkle in it. It's £30 but you can get it from Look Fantastic for £15 at the moment.

I bought the Biore one last year and it hurt when I applied it and stung my eyes when I ran and was in my sweat. The Lancaster one doesn't. I appreciate that's not at the top of everyone's list when it comes to sunscreen.

Lamentations · 02/04/2021 22:12

Sun cream will work but it will be greasy and heavy. I like the Beauty Pie one and LRP Anthelios. I'm tempted to buy a Paula's Choice one though. There is 15% off at the moment and if you sign up to the emails before you buy you'll get a £5 voucher through within a few minutes.

Lamentations · 02/04/2021 22:14

BTW I like Gwyneth - she has opinions I don't always agree with, especially in relation to 'clean' beauty but she's as entitled to her opinion as I am mine.

QueenPaw · 03/04/2021 00:29

I mean yes she is entitled to her opinion but it was more.. dangerous information. She dabbed a tiny tiny amount of SPF on the bridge of her nose and literally went "done. I don't like lathering myself in it, just put it where the sun catches"
Well that would be your ENTIRE face?

She would have been better not to mention SPF at all than show that, fine if you choose not to wear it

TheTeaFairy · 03/04/2021 16:59

Which Lancaster SPF cream do you mean, @Twinkie01 ? 🙏😊

Twinkie01 · 03/04/2021 17:02

TheTeaFairy it's called infinite glow.

Carycy · 03/04/2021 18:07

With the whole chemical thing. 50 has way more chemicals than 30 but only a tiny bit more protection, So I tend to go for 30 ( or 25 depending on the brand) but apply copiously and reapply through the day. That is better than bunging on factor 50 once and then forgetting about it.

Current faves are the beauty pie factor 25 one,
Cerave day face cream with 25, Clinique city block 25. They have a 40 which I use sometimes to. Also like trinny BFF factor 30 in the winter but that is to expensive to use in the summer as you need a lot so I like just a pump of that on top of one of my other spf in the summer.

Brunch on block spf 30 is an invisible powder in a brush that is great for reapplication. In the summer I keep in my car and dust a bit on when am leaving work.

TheTeaFairy · 03/04/2021 19:19

Thanks very much @Twinkie01 😊
