Hair colour people! Will Colour B4 always make your hair go red?

Even if you have zero red in your natural hair colour or in any of the dyes that are on it?

Bit late to ask as it's currently on my head 😂 but I'm seeing mixed reports online!

The colour I'm trying to remove is Dark Cool Brown (allegedly level 4 but more like 2/3.).

Hair colours tend to slightly bleach your hair before depositing the hair dye so yes you could have been lifted to a redder tone.

Starburst8 · 01/04/2021 18:11

I've used it several times before and I've had mixed results. One occasion I went orange, another time I went pink. Last time I tried it I went blonde. I really think it depends on what the colour was underneath the colour you're trying to get rid off.

MonkeyNotOrgangrinder · 01/04/2021 18:13

Mine went brassy blonde

PLAYJAJADINGDONG · 01/04/2021 18:18

Update: It's gone red 😂

Not necessarily a bad thing

Starburst8 · 01/04/2021 18:26

Reds not a bad thing... Assuming it's a nice red.
At least it ain't orange 😂

PLAYJAJADINGDONG · 01/04/2021 18:36

Oh it's definitely an orange red! And the midlengths to ends are green (was a dark brown to teal ombre dye job). I look a hot mess right now 😂

Am going to do another round of Colour B4 tomorrow (bloody ££ as I need two boxes 😩) and then most likely a bleach bath next week.

Planning to go something like the colour in this pic once I have a light enough base 😍 (but shitter as I'm not a professional just an impulsive amateur!).

I did ColourB4 a couple of years ago from very dark brown. Initial result scared the shit out of me 😱 Ginger blonde and like thin, tangled straw!
Added deep conditioning then a semi brown for a.couple of minutes. All good.
Now use Ash blonde to maintain a light.brown and really happy

Starburst8 · 01/04/2021 20:15

Love that colour in the picture.

I'm no expert, so am only going off my own experiences.. I now give my hair a vitamin C wash (this is vitamin c tablets crushed into powder mixed with shampoo) if left on long enough it pulls some colour out without the excessive damage.
I've also used a colour stripper from B&M it's like a cheap colour b4 (it's about £4 I think).
Like I said I am no expert but it works for me 🤣

PLAYJAJADINGDONG · 01/04/2021 21:36

Star The Vit C method has never worked well for me (plus I hate the faff and how long it takes). Thankfully the Colour B4 has done no damage to my hair other than leaving it quite dry. Just been and got two more boxes so will do round two tomorrow and see what I end up with.

Newone do you have any grey? Am trying to find a colour that's easier to hide my greys against. The dark brown was just the worst choice ever in retrospect 🤦.

I'm supposed to be putting colourb4 on my hair tomorrow and now I'm worried! I've got semi perm plum dye on my hair, but underneath that is my natural ash blonde hair. It's only been coloured once with this colour but has never faded out. Has anyone used it on once coloured hair and had a good result?

PLAYJAJADINGDONG · 09/04/2021 21:27

Back with an update.

The second round of Colour B4 (Frequent Use variety - the only one Asda had) was a complete waste of time and money. Did nothing.

I then did two bleach baths over 4 days which finally left me light enough to colour.

This is the result. Nothing like my inspo picture but I knew it was always going to be fairly pot luck as I just bought 5 different tubes of dyes that I liked based on swatches and mixed them in varying quantities in a bowl with developer.

I LOVE being a redhead so far and am glad to be a lighter, more natural colour after a good few years of being pink/purple/blue/green etc. I feel quite sophisticated 😀

@Hails68 how did you get on with the Colour B4?

I chickened out!
I've booked an appointment with a hairdresser 😂

PLAYJAJADINGDONG · 09/04/2021 22:08

Fair enough. Definitely the safer option 😁

You should be delighted with that colour, it's beautiful. It really suits your skin tone.

PLAYJAJADINGDONG · 09/04/2021 22:46

Ta Lola 🍷

I'm Irish pale, pink and freckly so was hoping it would be a no-brainer 🤣
