...What are you wearing?!

I’m in need of a shake up and some inspiration please!

I’m large of chest and stomach, bloody lockdown, I need to sort that but in the meantime need something to wear!

Thank you in advance wise fashion advisors of Mumsnet!

Absolutely not fashionable but I'm a similar shape and basically most of my office work tops are the sleeveless shift tops with the box pleat at the front (forgiving over tummy!) from Sainsbury's. Just worn with trousers and suit jacket. I usually wear a 3/4 length sleeve suit jacket.

Hi pheasants, thank you for your reply, I often find things in sainsburys but it’s not my local supermarket so I had completely forgotten about it!
I’ll have a look online!

i’m a 14 but same height. i wear the double vest tops with large straps from zara or 3/4 sleeve tops, then light shirt or blouse over with high waist trousers or leggings. boots or flats
i feel like baggy clothes make us look fatter
there are websites where you can input your measurements and they tell you your shape and what size you are in a range of shops. google what size am i, that should bring the sites up

GoofyIsACow · 01/04/2021 19:02

Thank you Mummy, that’s a great recommendation. I’ll get my tape measure out later. Where do you get your high waisted trousers from? I think if i nailed the trousers I would find the tops easier, i struggle to find the right trousers!

Popsy dresses at the moment.

GoofyIsACow · 01/04/2021 19:09

Ahh Cherry thank you, i LOVE Popsy dresses and ordered two a while ago, they had to go back because the proportions were all wrong 😞
The waist was too high for me mainly, i was gutted because i loved them both!

Hi I’m not as tall as you but a 16. I have high waisted wide leg trousers from Cos that I wear with blazers or fitted sweaters and block heeled boots or shoes. Casually I would wear them with trainers but I’m looking for loafers for spring. I also have ankle grazing trousers from Autograph & Cos that I will wear with oversized or longer blazers from Cos, Arket & Autograph. I have a couple of cream silk shirts that I’m looking forward to wearing with those either loose or tucked into the high waisted trousers. In addition I have longer midi skirts and a couple of midi dresses that I think are good. Some I bought new and some I bought pre loved on eBay or Depop. ( M&S and I’m looking for plain shell tops or t shirts that are nice enough for the office - I’ve just bought a pale pink and a nude colour T shirt from eBay ( both Cos). I generally stick to black, navy, cream or grey so I prefer to be a bit more experimental with elements - I’ll wear silver ankle boots from Vagabond with a navy monochrome outfit or a grey biker jacket over a dress. There are tonnes of office appropriate stuff for sale pre loved and there are definite bargains to be had.

GoofyIsACow · 02/04/2021 19:33

Thank you! I have been on depop and got a few Cos items in my list, It’s not a brand I ever look at really so thank you for that, I have only just really discovered depop, it’s great!
I think i need to go shopping and try things on, maybe that’s why i’m in a rut!

Same height but slightly smaller size but similarly large of chest. Work wise I like either a blazer (lk Bennett Charlee is my current favourite www.lkbennett.com/product/CJCHARLEECOTTONMIXBlackBlack www.lkbennett.com/product/CJCHARLEECOTTONMIXBlackBlack%7eCharlee-Jacket-Black?currency=GBP&istCompanyId=337c91ab-deea-4ab6-998e-03ece089da1f&istFeedId=8eb3370f-e730-40e5-89c0-e499b9e47d89&istItemId=wrmmmimim&istBid=t&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8K3Kg57g7wIVFoFQBh1y3wjBEAQYAyABEgKHavD_BwE%7eCharlee-Jacket-Black?currency=GBP&istCompanyId=337c91ab-deea-4ab6-998e-03ece089da1f&istFeedId=8eb3370f-e730-40e5-89c0-e499b9e47d89&istItemId=wrmmmimim&istBid=t&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI8K3Kg57g7wIVFoFQBh1y3wjBEAQYAyABEgKHavD_BwE ) with a top which covers my arms but skims over my tummy and skinny jeans/trousers. Working at home is just usually a top and joggers (lazy!).

Have found really lovely things in Sainsbury’s over the years, like a previous poster, and find they’re decent in terms of arm length etc for my height and they often have cotton tops which I love.

Dress wise I like a maxi and have 3 of these in different patterns /colours- I hate hate hate the fabric, it’s sweaty and cheap but they look so nice I can’t help myself from wearing them... something about the way they belt makes your waist look tiny even when it’s not: www.dancingleopard.co.uk/collections/dresses/products/dove-dress-ruby-red-leopard

Divebar2021 · 02/04/2021 22:47

I think Arket is good too... slightly more conventional shapes than Cos. I would ask for measurements though because I’ve been stung several times buying pre-loved and finding the fit is off.
