Sandals for those of us who are martyrs to our feet!

MacDuffsMuff · 28/03/2021 14:20

I have plantar fascitis on and off and generally find that 'normal' shoes now hurt me so much after an hour or two and I have two or three pairs that I can just about stand.

I want a pair of sandals for summer that I can wear for work with trousers and dresses/skirts. I spend a large amount of time on my feet (teacher).

Are these really horrific? I'm not looking for glamour, just acceptable! Grin but I need comfort.

I think those look great. Chunky with a bit of an edge and comfy too 👍

MacDuffsMuff · 28/03/2021 15:37

@JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn oh that's encouraging! I remembery mum telling me when I was much, MUCH younger that my wearing ridiculous heels every day would catch up with me sometime. How I wish I'd listened to my mum! 🤣

I love Fitflop Barra sandals. They're so comfortable and I think they look really nice. What about Birkenstocks?

MacDuffsMuff · 28/03/2021 17:38

@WhereAreWeNow I haven't had much luck with Birkenstocks, I find them so uncomfortable. A friend recommended Fitflops and have to admit, some of them are not as hideous as I was expecting! To be honest even if they were I'm putting comfort over glamour more and more these days. Smile

I really like them

WhereAreWeNow · 28/03/2021 19:23

Check out the Fitflop Barra style then OP. I bought one pair last summer and loved them so much that I now own 4 pairs in different colours Blush

RaininSummer · 28/03/2021 19:24

I think they are nice but I also have plantar so have to navigate the fine line between comfortably stylish and downright frumpy.

merrygoround88 · 28/03/2021 19:25

Fit flops are great as are Ecco sandals. I’ve also bought some of the old lady van daal shoes and new look wide fit are surprisingly comfy

terriblyangryattimes · 28/03/2021 19:30

I like them!
I have about 4 pairs of birkenstocks (which DO take time to wear in yes, but so worth it in my opinion) and also some really comfortable KEEN Elle sandals. A super comfy footbed which is like walking on air and wide straps that don't rub. They also have good grip on the soles. I have them in maroon from last year but I've just looked on the website to find the name and spotted they've got loads more colours/patterns now.

MacDuffsMuff · 28/03/2021 19:49

Well I've ordered them - though I like the Barra ones too (good shout @WhereAreWeNow) so I might order them too if I like the feel of these ones.

@MacDuffsMuff (great name BTW!) I got a sale pair on Amazon last week for £30. They're leather so v good value.

superram · 28/03/2021 20:00

A newbie of sufferer here, I’ve just ordered 3 pairs of hotter sandals that look vaguely non old lady.

superram · 28/03/2021 20:01

They are too flat for pf.

Enko · 28/03/2021 20:02

As a fellow PF sufferer, I don't think they will have enough support to ease it for you.

The only shoes I found worked to ease the pain was thicker soles so more traditional fitflops can work ok with the thick 1-inch sole or personally I use Alegria Paloma shoes/sandals they are expensive but took the pain away for me.

tiredteacher100 · 28/03/2021 20:03

I need arch support and have discovered Strive sandals, they are super comfy!

Pixie2015 · 28/03/2021 20:08

I love fit flops and get a new pair in sale every year and also love salt water sandal but know they are too flat for some people

Peachypips78 · 28/03/2021 20:10

I have these but in silver- they look horrible in the photo but nice in real life. I have terrible feet and I could wear them for a 12 hr shift.

Hotter and Ecco usually work for me, but for Hotter in particular you have to go into the shop to try them on and see them IRL, it's too easy to buy the fugliest things known to man online. I got the most lovely pair of Hotter pony skin sandals 2 years ago, but when I looked at them online to send a friend the link, they looked horrendous.

MoltonSilver · 28/03/2021 20:16

The ones that you've ordered look ideal.

marriednotdead · 28/03/2021 20:33

I am not sure those would be supportive enough, sorry. I have a similar condition to PF.

I don't get on with Birkenstock's either but the Scholl Bioprint range has a footbed I can cope with. I've had multiple pairs of Lusaka over the last few years because they have adjustable straps. I can do whole days on my feet in them without pain.

AnnieSnap · 28/03/2021 21:09

I tried so many makes for my poor feet (planter fasciitis and arthritis) and the most comfortable for me are Fitflops in any style. Their actual flipflops are amazing. They look, with their thin soles, as if they couldn’t possibly be comfortable. With their Iqusion technology though, they are wonderful and look lovely. I practically live in them over the summer and on holiday. I can walk comfortably for as long as I need to in them Smile

70sduvet · 28/03/2021 22:47

If you haven't got on with birkinstocks but love the style please try the soft footbed ones. They are nothing like the originals. I have rheumatoid arthritis, quite badly in my feet and was resigned to hotter.
The soft footbed birkies are amazing, they don't need broken in at all.
Also OP I love the linked fitflops, may have to check those out, I was considering a pair of tevas but these look like they can be very casual or be dressed up.... lovely 😍
