New to Style - Ball Dress help!

Hello! I am a regular but have steered clear of here as I am still overwieght from having DD so have not been buying much recently!

I am going to a very swanky Christmas Ball and need a Dress. It will be our first night out since having DD, she will be 15m . I intend to be the Belle of the ball!

It can be Long formal or Cocktail.

I am 5'11" and a size 20 (blardy BFing Norks still ) Oh and I am a red head so bright Pink is out!

I have a fairly limited budget all in (Dress, bag and shoes - £150). I have started looking but as I live in the sticks it is a bit hard to get to a decent Shopping centre and try stuff on with DD in tow.

So the plan is to get a short list off the net (and MN recommendations) then leave DD with DP for the day and complete my mission!

Any recommendations welcome

Ok - 20 should be fine. So you;ll need to wear a bra, I guess. How good are your arms? Happy to show them? Waist, or not so much? and hips - vouptuous or not?

Monsoon always good and they go up to a 20.

JackieNo · 08/11/2007 20:54

Ooh - shame this would use up your whole budget.

JackieNo · 08/11/2007 20:57

Would you wear purple - can look stunning on a redhead.

callmeovercautious · 08/11/2007 20:58

Arms are not great but I could waer a shawl type thing - see I need help, I don't even know what to call the thing I am thinking of!

Waist etc not too bad, it's the bust that makes me the size otherwise I am a 16. DP always says I have a small bum so I suppose I am not hippy as such.

That style is what I am after though, I saw one in M&Co in their Tall section but they only go to 18 and it was a bit tight, I looked like I had shoved a BFing pillow down my top

Thanks though!!!

Black's the classic. (you mean a shrug, to cover the arms, btw).

I don't think the Ribbon would do me any favours!

Shrug...I will remember that word.

One of my friends is a redhead and she looks lovely in dark blues. How about this for £100? It goes up to your size bust and you could use the sash to nip in your waist. (I have the same problem with big top and smaller everything else.)

This is lovely too, though black again. Or this is a lovely colour. So is this. More black, but pretty too.

fortunecookie · 08/11/2007 21:44

But you can get more for your money if you order from the US...

callmeovercautious · 08/11/2007 22:20

I only went away to have Dinner! Loads of great things, I have added loads to favourites.

Keep them coming

So far I have searched:
Littlewoods - Thanks to JackieNo, Wallis, Debenhams and M&Co. M&S actually have some nice things but I have an aversion to them as it makes me feel old! I want to be Partying like I am still at College not a 30 something Mummy

The Jade Green is a great Colour. The last one of these I went to (years ago) I wore Jade and Black, it was the most fantastic full length, cross over bodice dress but my Boyfriend at the time stood on it as we were getting out of the taxi at home and it tore Cost me a fortune too!
I have to go now but will check in later.
