How to curl hair if you’re completely cack handed

I have very thick, straight hair. Whenever I have my hair done I get it blow dried curly and it really suits my face shape - I’ve got quite manly features and long hair makes me look horsey and short hair makes me look like a bloke.

I’ve tried various techniques to get a similar effect but I’m completely uncoordinated and always make a balls up of it. If I use a diffuser I look like Bon Jovi circa 1985. I’ve tried the DIY hair curler things where you pull your hair into a curly straw type thing and I couldn’t do it. I’ve tried blow drying techniques from YouTube and I can’t do it. I’ve tried the funny machine that sucks your hair in and twists it round and I ended up having to cut it out as I messed that up too. I’ve managed to get a wave wand to work but it doesn’t really give me the look I’m after as it all looks very precise and weird.

Any ideas or tips?

I have hair like that! In all honesty I gave up on the tools and now french braid my hair overnight. Hairspray on it in the morning. Sorry if that's not helpful 😃

I use straighteners to curl mine but I always get one side that looks loads better than the other! I have tried all sorts but that seems to work best on my hair, I also have really thick hair. I watched YouTube videos for help!

My hairdresser suggested coconut oil and braiding over night but I'm hopeless as braiding my own hair!!

You need a Dyson Airwrap. It's the only way I can achieve a hairdresser worthy groomed but curly hairstyle.

It takes a little practice to get the hang of it, but it is very easy to achieve good lasting curls.

I tried curling my hair the other night with a dressing gown cord - watched a YouTube video and it was great! Usually completely useless with my hair and anything other than brushing it looks ridiculous. But this worked! Just search heatless curls dressing gown and loads will come up :)

Dyson Airwrap. Does it itself, just watch some tutorials so you know where to hold it. And it's just a wand so hair doesn't get tangled in some mechanism.

I have a now-ancient giant curling wand. Pretty sure it's a VS. It has a massive barrel so no poodle curls. Depending what product I use I can get proper curls or brushed out lovely wavey curls. It's the only think that has ever worked for me. But I did burn my forehead once trying to get my fringe just right. Its currently held together with a hair tie and I will be heart broken when it dies as it has literally been around the world with me.
