SPORN CRISIS KLAXON! DS is filming a major TV drama and a boil has come up on his face

BoffinMum · 15/03/2021 21:33

We are in day 3 or 5 of DS (19) filming on set for 12 hours a day as a fancy version of an extra, his first paid job ever, major TV series.
So far things have gone well but he just came to me to ask advice on this 'thing' that has come up at the top of his cheek. It is the most massive swelling about an inch in diameter but does not seem to have a head. I warmed it with a hot flannel and then gently nudged it with two cotton buds and some blood was released but not much, and it's still looking swollen and somewhat solid below the surface. I dare not do more lest he turns up looking like a zombie tomorrow for filming, which would be a problem as it's not that kind of TV programme. Help! What to do? Products? Something else! Help us, MN!

We need pictures to advise properly!

BoffinMum · 15/03/2021 21:40

I was categorically not allowed to take any picture of the wider face so it's a bit blurry. I hope it will do.

The picture does not show the topography very well, it's a solid raised lump below the surface.

Aw I am sorry for your poor DS, but enjoying your descriptions! I think he just needs to hold his head high and own it. That doesn’t look like it’s getting a head anytime soon and even if it did, the aftermath of the squeezing would be equally eye catching.

VienneseWhirligig · 15/03/2021 21:47

It could be an infected carbuncle - my DS had one of those last year. Alternatively it could just be an ingrowing hair. Can he ice it to see if the swelling reduces?

BoffinMum · 15/03/2021 21:53

oo, ice, I will take some up to him although he has to go to sleep soon as he has to be up at 5 for filming.

He now has a cold pack on it

You say own it but the difference between normal face and this thing is £30 a day in earnings for each close up, apparently.

aspirin is supposed to be good for this sort of thing, crush dampen apply

otherwise I'd go down the traditional teen solution of a nice big blob of toothpaste...freshened/reapplied as it dries as its extra important.

JollyGreenGiantess · 15/03/2021 22:08

Beware the toothpaste - it can burn the skin (voice/carbuncle of experience)

BoffinMum · 15/03/2021 22:10

His sister has some Salycic acid gel we could apply? (however you spell it)

concealer

Bicnod · 15/03/2021 22:11

Hi @BoffinMum 👋 nothing useful to say but lovely to see you on here, hope all is well x

VienneseWhirligig · 15/03/2021 22:14

If it is a carbuncle, by the way, there could be lots of, erm, fun if/when it erupts! DS had to have minor surgery on his (twice) because it was so deep (he had ignored it for nearly 2 years) but when the plastic surgeon touched it with a finger tip, it went splat over him and the wall of the cubicle Grin

BoffinMum · 15/03/2021 22:15

Cold pack helped a bit, have just put a crushed up dispersible aspirin on it and he's now gone to bed.

Grin all good here. Can't believe our April babies are now in big school Shock I miss those heady days of the fanjo warriors... There must be scope for a reunion at some point...
Wonderbrush · 16/03/2021 15:05

Sudocrem works really well

Flyonawalk · 16/03/2021 19:58

Cortisone shot if you can get him to a dermatologist. Will make it disappear within hours.

Deathraystare · 17/03/2021 14:27

I am sure there will be make up ladies/men on set who will be able to deal with it.

QueenPaw · 17/03/2021 21:20

The acid gel should help a lot

Hexinthecity · 17/03/2021 21:29

Tell him to make friends with the MUAs on the hair and makeup truck, and make sure he keeps on the good side of the standbys! They’ll keep him right and touch him up on set through the day (they will do anyway but if he makes an effort to be upfront with them and let them know he’s feeling self conscious about it they’ll keep an extra eye out for him)

ohnoisaid2much · 17/03/2021 21:41

@BoffinMum try antihistamine? That gets my swelling down when I get those (usually from dairy)

BoffinMum · 18/03/2021 08:10

Thanks for all the posts. Filming is now ending and the boil thing seems to be shrinking. I think it may have meant a few lost closeups though.

Bicnod I KNOW! Youngest even has a small zit now. Where did the time go?! Definitely up for a reunion. I still see AuldAlliance from time to time, we have done quite a few sleepovers now. And Nutty occasionally texts me. But not really in touch with the wider group. Btw I am out of the wheelchair now and quite a bit better although still have to be careful.
