If you’re a size 12-14 hourglass shape, where do you buy work trousers?

I normally favour dresses for work but I could really do with a couple of pairs of trousers. Except I haven’t bought trousers for years and am really struggling. I’m 5’3” and a boob-heavy hourglass, have a one year old so carrying a bit more round the tummy and hips than I’d like.

Where do I start?

Boden Richmond
M&S
Next - tend to come up a bit big
I often have to buy a 14 but then put some tucks in to tighten the waist.

M&S. I have some horrific elasticated at the back ones which look nice on.
Also I suit their Mia trouser shape, if you get on with it they do about 30 variants of it. Velvet, checked, linen at the moment.

Thank you - I get on well with Boden for dresses, don’t know why I didn’t think of them for trousers!

Jaeger used to have a Jean style but in a smarter fabric that were great for work.

I’m this shape and find Jean style, no side pockets , slight stretch and slim leg work best for me.

I buy a few pairs when I find them .

For my shape I found Boden Richmond cut didn’t suit, side pockets on hips just where not needed and the fabric emphasised the apple / pear shape. :-(

Even though these are pull on, I wear with an untucked blouse and jacket.

My top tip is to buy what fits hips and then get a tailor to nip in the waist. It adds £15 to any new item but few things exist off the rack that fit me.

Tesco and Asda. However, I'm a primary school teacher so my work clothes get covered in paint, glue and occasionally even less substances so I refuse to spend alot on work clothes!!

rc22 · 13/03/2021 12:06

*less pleasant substances
