Treating myself. A ring? £300 ish

I want a new ring and been given some money just to be spent on me so thought I'd get a pretty ring. I would love a new engagement ring but doubt £300 gets much though I dreamed last night of a small rub over diamond on a really thin rose gold band but there's no chance of that! I like silver, white gold/ platinum and hapoy to go vintage. I like quirky too. I just want to know if £300 will get me anything nice. What do you think? Show me your rings too that fall in this price bracket ! New engagement ring might have to wait as I am a bit magpie like in wanting a new diamond which will be way more.

You’ll find something lovely in silver for that price at Georg Jensen.

Any ring that doesn’t have stones all the way round can be size adjusted by at least a couple of sizes. But bear in mind it’s likely they wouldn’t want to adjust anything too old/fragile as it will potentially mess with the settings of any stones.

Vintage jewellery won’t lose any value. New Silver always will.

Look at the next Fine Jewellery auction at Fellows. Early in the catalogue are some cheaper items. Most are very attractive - if you can get something at the valuation! Much nicer than modern silver.

How about this? I’ve bought lots from Adam over the years and he’s very negotiable on price!

What is the return policy please?
JaceLancs · 12/03/2021 20:15

I’ve always bought in person from him at antiques fairs but I would email him and ask - I would imagine under current circumstances returns are possible

JaceLancs · 12/03/2021 20:16

Just checked website n it says 14 day no quibble returns Smile

Monica Vintner has lots of lovely rings in your price bracket, some a bit less and designed to be stacked. Worth a look! Here's one I like :-)www.monicavinader.com/riva-diamond-wave-triple-ring/rose-gold-vermeil-riva-diamond-wave-triple-ring-diamond

Have a look on Liberty London website. There are some lovely Astley Clark rings.
I also like this one a lot!

If you can wait OP until April, I'd head off to a big antique fair where you can wander around and try on to your heart's content. Depending where you are, they are reopening when the shops open up and there are many bargains to be had.

IrisW · 12/03/2021 20:37

I’ve bought several pieces from instagram.com/mollyginnellyjewellery?igshid=jxsy7u3ia7ei and she does commissions for very reasonable prices.

Biscoffontoast · 12/03/2021 20:47

Try your local pawnbrokers when they open, you would be amazed at what treasures you can find! I bought a seven stone 0.75 carat diamond ring in 18 white gold for £295 and the stones are beautifully cut, white and sparkly! I had my normal local jeweller look at it and he couldn’t believe I had got such a nice ring for that price. Ebay is also good for preowned/vintage jewellery but beware sellers using enhanced photos and look carefully at the specifications of the piece, especially cut and clarity. You don’t want less than SI clarity and if you are colour sensitive it’s best to go for G colour at a minimum. A lot of sellers will use I1 clarity which will have obvious inclusions and not sparkle at all.

Monica Vinader has a lot of different styles and the jewellery is good quality, modern and classy.

Definitely visit Birmingham Jewellery Quarter if you can, I got my wedding ring from there, paid less than £100 for a 9 carat 5mm wide gold band with 5 diamonds in it 18 years ago, a very similar ring in H Samuel at the same time cost £399 & the diamonds were smaller than mine were. We paid less than £300 for mine & exh wedding rings, exh had a very chunky 7.5mm gold band that was the largest ring size available. Otherwise look locally for a jewellery designer, my mum had an eternity ring designed & made for her by a local designer, it is very unique & was much cheaper than buying a ready made ring from a jewellers.
