I'm getting a new one (long story).

I'd like I white gold, solitaire, round on a very simple and slim ring. I was thinking 1/2 to 1 carat (max)

Can you show me yours for inspiration and, if you don't mind, the size of the carat to give me perspective.

I tried on a vintage one that was beautiful, thinking it was the perfect size, turns out it's 2 1/2 carats.....Grin
@Blancah yours is absolutely gorgeous!!!
Thank you! I love it Smile
I'm not wearing it an awful lot at the moment (or any of my jewellery) I started taking it off this time last year to coincide with all the increased hand washing and have only worn it sporadically since because I've just got used to being completely free and comfortable without them all on.

Mine is Edwardian - a mine cut diamond, 1.3 carat. Also love these threads!

@Minkyscamp I love that set. Looks stunning on your (also very lovely) hands.

BungleandGeorge · 10/03/2021 13:08

@BehindMyEyes to be fair Tiffany don’t sell poor quality diamonds. A lot of high street and internet jewellers sell well below the point at which Tiffany will not use the diamond. It’s the combination of cut with a quality diamond that makes the sparkle. It also depends on what inclusions there are, where they are in the ring etc

Minkyscamp · 10/03/2021 13:13

@Lndnmummy thank you! Though I think the photo is deceptive - I certainly don't have lovely hands!

Toomuchleopard · 10/03/2021 13:38

This is mine which is 0.6 carat round cut on a platinum band. The band tapers towards the diamond which makes it appear slimmer.

Oo the cut of this diamond is so nice
roarfeckingroarr · 10/03/2021 13:49

This is mine. .85 diamond with excellent colour, clarity. Apologies for claw hand - holding the pram!

Mine is half a carat. I’d like 0.75.

I would say go for platinum over white gold so it doesn’t discolour or wear away.

ginsparkles · 10/03/2021 13:52

I work in a jewellers. Visit an independent jewellers who can guide you through the process.

The best thing you can do is try one lots of different styles. The one I chose wouldn't have been what I expected. I have just under 1.00ct emerald cut.

If you can see the diamonds loose you can choose the best combination of size and quality for your budget.

WhoAreYah · 10/03/2021 13:58

Forgot the pic! I have small hands (I am a size j)

ramonac · 10/03/2021 13:59

I can't remember the carat size, possibly around 1 with smaller ones surrounding it.

My one is a 1.3 carat round cut diamond with double halo. I need to get it resized or lose weight lol. This is a picture from when I first had it that's why it's not clear. It was easier scrolling through the pictures than taking it out from its safe place to get an actual picture of it. I love my ring but it's very difficult to find the right wedding band that will go with it. I just wear a standard wedding band without the engagement ring right now.

and yes as I said the quality consists of a good match of colour ( do not always need to go to colourless ), the cut and the amount of inclusions again many cannot be seen by the naked eye . People may think they are doing the right thing by going for a colourless with no inclusions . It's not necessary .

Any good jeweller will make you a ring to go with this .

bendmeoverbackwards · 10/03/2021 22:12

Great thread!

Here’s mine - 1ct brilliant cut diamond with trillions either side. I love it so much and have worn it every day since our wedding 22 years ago.

dripfeeder · 11/03/2021 01:34

@BehindMyEyes yes we are planning to get one designed for our anniversary this year hopefully as well as resize the engagement ring. At the time we were trying to find 'one' on the high st and just couldn't find it as it clashed and didn't compliment it.

roarfeckingroarr · 11/03/2021 10:49

@allofthecheese thanks 😊 DH chose it and did well

Biscuitmonster2318 · 11/03/2021 11:26

Had to crop my hand as the fake tan went horribly wrong and now looks like a bag of Dorito’s!

Oh the fake tan tragedies I’ve had! 😂

Anyway my ring is 0.75 on 18ct white gold.
I’m a strange person and when my now husband was looking at rings and sending me pictures of very stunning beautiful ones, I struggled to say that I didn’t want any.

I told him it had to be white gold, silver or platinum, single diamond solitare and I didn’t care on the size and princess or brilliant cut, with the arms coming thinner towards the diamond and setting.
But most importantly it couldn’t be new. I wanted a ring that had been made prior 1950’s
I wanted a piece of jewellery that had all ready had a life, an exciting engagement and wedding and been rubbed and twisted during the toils of marriage and lasted.
That if the ring was just coming onto the market to be sold now and had been made prior to the date I said... then I would like to imagine the ring had been part of a wonderful, long marriage and was getting sold because not needed.

I know it’s very strange but I love all things vintage - purely for the history they have.

So my husband got down on one knee with this
It was perfect

It actually comes from a jewellers in Hatton Garden via their ebay store.
It came with authenticity certificate and valuation etc

I also don’t like spending a lot of money and after seeing how much the certificate said he paid for it and what an independent jewellery insurance company valued it at im glad I didn’t mind ‘secondhand’ as everyone tells me it as I should have expected new.

He paid £795 for it in 2015 and last January for insurance to replace it was valued at 4250

So if you want vintage - typing that in searches makes the price higher. If you know you don’t mind something someone has worn try the secondhand search instead!
I was specific in my dates as I didn’t want a ring that was a few years old and was getting sold cos it hadn’t lasted!
I wanted the romance behind a long marriage

Lovely thread. Here’s mine. It’s Art Deco .85carat platinum band with baguette cut on the shoulders.

Ahhh so many lovely rings! 😍😍 I just love engagement/wedding ring threads, it’s so nice to get a peek at all the different styles that people have, and hear the stories behind them!

I haven’t got any photos right now but I’ll post one if I can be bothered to get my hands/nails in good enough shape over the weekend.

I echo going antique. I'm not going to post a picture of mine because it's rare and so very outing - but I only got an engagement ring last year after 15 years of marriage for complicated reasons. It's 18ct yellow gold 100, year old art nouveau ring with 14 diamonds in a trilogy set in a curve to the total of 0.82 ct. I can definitely recommend antique as my diamonds are old euro cut and sparkle so much. Best thing?only cost £3000
