What shorts do men wear this side of the millennium?

Asking on behalf of DH He’s a shorts and flip flops man, but everything he owns looks like it once belonged to a member of Blink 182. He’s been fine with this for 20 years and I’m a firm believer in letting people dress how they damn well please... but the other day (when it was sunny) he excitedly fetched his shorts out and then looked dejectedly at the pockets and frays and suddenly declared them old fashioned. He asked me what would be more suitable for a 37 year old in 2021 and I had no idea. A brief look online seems to show things that would be great on a 20-something in Marbella but wouldn’t look quite right on a (bloody gorgeous) dad bod. Any suggestions?

My 36 year DH is usually in Chino shorts, unless we're just chilling at home then it's just above the knee denim

Obviously very budget dependent question but Carhartt do a good range of chino shorts in sensible grown up colours!

Have we the same husband😅, mine is addicted to cargo shorts as he loves the pockets too!
I've got him some chino shorts which do look nice but he's still hankering after some cargo shorts.

My husband is slightly younger but also with a dad bod and he wears chino shorts and a couple of slimish fitting knee length denim ones that work.
I think the temptation is too wear baggier for comfort, but i think erring on the side of slim is actually more flattering.

My DH has both chino shorts and cargo....depending on what he's up to. Cargo for work or casual and chino if he wants to look a bit smarter.

We're in Oz and shorts are often worn...

If he's got a bit of a belly, he should just wear a longer top over them.

Wondering if anyone's chino shorts recommendations include a longer length? DH is 40s but trendy. He some really nice chino shorts last year from Massimo Dutti and somewhere posher (maybe Boss) but he looked a bit like he was growing out of everything. He's slim, 6'3 and lanky legged.

Gap chinos are nice and come in different lengths.

OP I think we should forget about fashion and go for what we feel comfortable.

That said!!! As I reached my 30s I wanted to feel like I was dressing maybe not so much as a university student.

So your DP could wear shorts and sandals but ones from grown up brands.

I still live in jeans just not ripped ones or distressed or wtv

Dh wears chino shorts or cargo shorts from crew clothing

Lululemon sports shorts for home and sports and chino shorts in various colours for smart.

My DH is about ten years younger than yours but sports a lovely 'dad bod' already hah. He wears chino style shorts and jogger style shorts in the summer.
