If you're usually a size 10, what's your hip measurement in inches?

Hi,

Off the back of my other thread, just wondering if this is right. I'm a size 10, but this website has said I need size 38.32 (presumably the 32 is leg length)

This sounds too big to me, but I'm really not used to this sizing!

Some advice please

My size 10 Next skinny jeans measure 39 in at the hips, although their size guide suggests it should be much smaller. IMO almost all brands' clothes are bigger than their published measurements.

40 inches but I do find some size 10 jeans are far too tight and others about right, and I have a particularly pear shaped body so it depends where the clothes sit on my hips (low is too tight, higher towards my small waist is better).

I've got short legs and I need a 30 length

My hips are 37/38 whether I'm a 10 or a 12 but it's my waist that makes a difference to being a 10 or a 12

I have quite narrow hips but not the waist to match them! My hips are about 35inches, but my waist is 30 inches. Tend to be 10 bottom, 12 top.

Depends where you measure hips surely? Around the widest part of my bum it’s 38 inches but around my actual hip bones is 34. I wear a 10 but some brands are infinitely more forgiving than others definitely.

I wouldn't buy 38 inch hip jeans. Are you sure it's not French/European dress size? I think a French 38 is a UK 10.

I’d think of 36 inches as a standard size 10 and 38 inches as a generous size 10. My hips used to be 38 and I’d buy size 12 except for flared styles or shops with bigger sizing like M&S/Next

Hip measurement is the widest part.

Mine are 41inches but I’m 5’11 so maybe that makes a difference? I wear a size 10/12, usually a 10 on the waist

My hips are 39.5 around the largest part of my bum and I'm a size 10 in jeans, occasionally an 8. My waist is 27. Never thought I had a big arse before but I'm questioning it now.

@user88899, I'd say we're similar shapes and I don't know about you, but I find it a nightmare to find trousers/dressers to fit properly! What tends to happen is, if they fit me on the hips, they're too big on my bum, but if they fit me on the bum, they're too tight on the hips! Genuinely is very annoying.

So glad I came to this thread, turns out I've been measuring wrong all along, I actually have 37 inch hips and 29 inch waist, relieved as that puts me at low risk WHR whereas my wrong figures were putting me at high risk which I didn't understand being relatively slim.

I'm old and am still working to 34" being a size 10, 36" a 12, 38" a 14 and so on. I realise I may be out of touch.

I am 37,27( 26 on a good day),37 .
Size 10 nearly always fits. (Well aware I would have been a 14 pre 1990)

36" hips, usually buy a size 10.

35" - usually a 10, sometimes an 8 dependent on cut.

Where are you buying trousers from that are sized according to the hip measurement? It’s usually waist size. I’m a 10 and have 39-40 inch widest part. Would always wear a 28 in jeans/trousers and have a 28 inch waist. As someone mentioned, are you sure it’s not French sizing? A 38 is a 10. Nothing to do with the size of your hips as far as I know!

I’m a 28 waist, 37 hips. Are you sure 38 isn’t the dress size? I buy a lot in Cos and a 10 is a 36 there. Which shop is it?

Shops give the hip measurement for trousers? Eg H&M

Ok but the OP has said she needs “size 38” which isn’t the same as trousers that measure 38 inches on the hips (for any brand I’ve ever seen).
