I am single and won't know many people so need to look good and feel comfortable. Was thinking Audrey Hepburn in breakfast at tiffanies but would then need a dress and definately cannot do a shift dress. Am tall, size 12 ok on top (although not big chested)but have fat tummy and am self conscious about thighs and hips too. Or any other suggestions for characters?

Well, do you want something funny or something cool and trendy?
What are your favourite movies?

used2bthin · 04/11/2007 21:17

Before dd I only watched horrors and now rarely watch films. A lot of people in recent films wouldnt be recognisably I think. I want to look nice though and not too over the top or funny cos won't know anyone and may even be driving so possibly not even any dutch courage!

If I went as Audrey do you think I could wear a dress that isnt a shift dress? Will have to but one so would have to be one I could wear again, any ideas?

You could wear a sleeveless black top with trousers or a skirt. Would work if you concentrate on the accessories, glasses, jewelery etc. Long gloves and cigarette thingy would be great. Like this

OMGhelp · 04/11/2007 21:36

Go as Morticia Adams as in the Adams family. Long black dress, fake finger nails, white make-up and black.

kindersurprise · 04/11/2007 21:37

this one is lovely

jumpyjan · 04/11/2007 21:37

VeniVidiVickiQV · 04/11/2007 21:38

You could go as James Bond....

used2bthin · 04/11/2007 21:40

oh like that dress kindersurprise, not sure if it would do what every dress seems to do to me now though, make me bulge out everywhere from rib cage down, think its when they are bias cut or someting. Will go in and try that one though I think.

Have a look at this website, I like the Rizzo one, you could copy that easily enough. And the Matrix one is good too.

kindersurprise · 04/11/2007 21:53

I know what you mean Used2bthin, (aaahhh! just got your name, doh!) I am the same when buying dresses. I find that the bias cut ones look horrible on me as they cling to the bits that I would rather skim over.

used2bthin · 04/11/2007 22:01

wow that costumes site is brilliant! There are loads of things I'd be, really like the twenties stuff actually although would then have to think of a film! If I was thin(still) I'd be tin lady thats so funny! Am thinking if am going to be sensible I should get a dress or top I can wear over the xmas period if I get invited to more parties...

I spent ages looking at the website. They seem to have the same costumes that M&S sell. We bought the Alice in Wonderland a few years ago for DD.

Agree that a dress or top that you could wear again might be a better option though. Have fun anyway!
