flaky skin on hairline at back of neck

I've had this problem on and off for 20+ years. It's not like normal dandruff, just large flakes, sometimes a bit scabby, where my hair meets my neck (& used to get it on my forehead hairline too, thankfully haven't had it there for years). Sometimes it goes away for a year or two but always comes back until I find another product that works.

I've tried a few products over the years - hair masks, lotions, etc. Most recently I've been using body shop ginger, which worked for a couple of years. I thought I'd finally found the right product, so bought some black jumpers - big mistake as I can't wear them now it's come back.

Has anyone found a product that works for this? Lotion, shampoo, vitamins, diet, I'll try anything. It really affects my confidence. I was looking forward to getting a haircut when hairdressers reopen, but I just want to curl up and hide when my scalp's like this.

I just noticed Body Shop does a scalp serum as well as the ginger shampoo and conditioner. Has anyone tried that?

My friend suffers from this, apparently it's something to do with excess yeast? She suffered for years and the below shampoo, apparently the Keto -20mg ingredient is what treats it. I'm sure if you google it will give you more info then I can :)

Nizoral Anti-dandruff Shampoo, Treats and Prevents Dandruff, Suitable for Dry Flaky and Itchy Scalp, Contains Ketoconazole - 60ml https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001ETUD5I/ref=cmswwrcppapifabcc_GJCTCE5B0PEBPSRGAHYZ

Try a hydrocortisone cream you don't need a prescription.

Could be psoriasis? My sister has that and also has flaking skin around her hairline.

I have this. I also have alopecia, not sure if they are related. GP prescribed Betacap, a steroid lotion which calms everything down for quite a while with only one or two uses for me. I also use TGel shampoo.

I get that and around my temples and have a disgusting scalp in general. I've found that avalon organics tea tree shampoo keeps it under control without drying my hair out too much.

It’s seborrheic dermatitis. The Nizoral shampoo linked to above should treat it nicely.

This shampoo works really well for this!

Thanks everyone - I'll work my way through these suggestions. I'm sure something will work. It didn't occur to me that it might be psoriasis or dermatitis. Maybe I'll check with the GP if I can't find anything to shift it.
