Wedding dress for older bride, non white, forest wedding

MapGirlExtraordinaire · 13/02/2021 17:13

Inspired by the other current thread and all the fantastic ideas there, can anyone help me please?

I'm getting married in the forest next year. General vibe is festivally, very non formal.

I'm early 40s, size ~14, big boobs and a bit of a podgy tum but cracking legs. 5ft5.

I want something I can wear again, and I want to avoid pale colours.

I generally suit jewel tones, esp like blues and teals.

Let's pretend there is no budget, but realistically it's around £1000, though I'd be very happy to spend under £200

Ready to be hit with all your suggestions 🤞🤞🤞

Aha - here you are.

I thought I'd found you the perfect dress, but reading your OP again, maybe not.

May have another look.

Oh, the Phase 8 one looks perfect! Plus you can show of some leg with the slits.

ZaZathecat · 13/02/2021 21:47

How about this from Silk Fred to show off your pins?

mummyof2lou · 13/02/2021 21:51

Love the Marchesa

MapGirlExtraordinaire · 13/02/2021 22:07

Thanks for links!

The Phase Eight Cape one is rather fab, I migjt give that a try. I do like the idea of something with a little edge like a cape.

If the others, I'm not keen on full length sleeves, should have said sorry! I feel like a lollipop with sleeves all the way to my wrists. I like a half sleeve or even a shirt sleeve.

Probably not shoestring, I'm an apple shape with J cup boobs so I have some podgy bits round the upper arm / underarm area which I'd rather not showcase too much, and with my boobs a bra is a must. Unless anyone knows of a bra solution for someone like me? I have bra indents on my shoulders though so even with some kind of wonder stick on thing I'd probably look awful.

I don't think I've seen anything which quite fits the bill yet. I was imagining some kind of print or sparkle, plain satin will get bbq juice and child snot dribbled on it instantly, I need something more forgiving!

I like the mad 70s balloon sleeve dress but it wouldn't look elegant on me, and sleeves too long.

Marches a I think I'd look like a sofa. I like the vibe but would need it toned down a bit somehow, less puff as I already have enough natural puff Wink

Please keep the ideas coming, this is fun!

Ooh that silk reformation one is gorgeous. I don't think it would fit - I might well need to buy a 16 or 18 and get it taken in, I'm more of a 12 on the bottom half really when I'm not using lockdown as an excuse to stay home and eat chocolate

And I love the brand name Vampire's Wife, I've not heard of them before. Off to see if they've got any general wear dresses I like

This is beautiful I imagine with roses in your hair, plain gypspjilia bouquet, flowers in jam jars type wedding: www.johnlewis.com/whistles-rose-wedding-dress-ivory-multi/p4907099

afrikat · 13/02/2021 22:26

Check out Bombshell, they have some beautiful dresses

DoodleLovin · 13/02/2021 22:29

How about Halfpenny London? They have amazing elegant dresses that aren’t OTT.
I’d also recommend having a look on Still White- secondhand dresses but most of them still have tags on.

Pieceofpurplesky · 13/02/2021 22:43

I got married in a cream suits - knee length jacket and wide pants. It was a country hotel and we were outside ... I was comfortable and looked stylish. It had a hippyish vibe in that it was loose flowing .

I still wear the suit despite the husband being long gone

Londonmummy66 · 13/02/2021 22:45

How about a coat with either a shift or trousers? I like the fact that this website shows you their clothes on real people with boobs and bumps rather than just slim flat chested models.
