Mother of Bride - can I make this work?

DD wedding postponed from last July to this December (covid pending).

I had purchased this to wear but not sure if it will look silly at Christmas!

I'm 63 - will wear a coat.

Oh, that is utterly beautiful. Can you get a jacket/pashmina/throw that will go with it?

xmasmob · 05/02/2021 19:23

@Ginfordinner thank you. It comes with a 3/4 sleeve jacket but I just don't know what colour coat would work for the church part!

The top being white may be a bit offensive to the bride? Depends on how she feels.

Ginfordinner · 05/02/2021 19:24

I didn't click on the second picture, so I see that it does. I think a red coat would look lovely with ti. I just love that dress.

mouldyhouse101 · 05/02/2021 19:25

Oh that's lovely!

xmasmob · 05/02/2021 19:25

@DwangelaForever DD has seen it in real life as got it pre covid and she likes!

It's lovely, but I don't think it suits a December wedding.

PastramiNoRye · 05/02/2021 19:26

I think I'd go fake fur for a December wedding. Maybe in a silvery grey?

hopeishere · 05/02/2021 19:26

It's lovely but very summery. What shoes? Flesh coloured tights? Do you mean a heavy winter coat or a jacket?

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 05/02/2021 19:27

I wore a white fake fur bolero over a strappy silk dress to a winter wedding. I looked fab, and I felt like the Snow Queen.

thefirstmrsrochester · 05/02/2021 19:28

You can definitely make this more ‘winter’. Coat in a dark russet, so echoing the peach florals. Accessories also. Or go winter white with the coat.

xmasmob · 05/02/2021 19:28

@hopeishere it is summery.

Worried I will look silly but I spent quite a lot on it and I'd be loathed to waste it.

Thank you for all replies

It is beautiful x

Brenna24 · 05/02/2021 19:30

It is lovely. Wear and enjoy. I think that some form of russet coat would look great.

SuperSange · 05/02/2021 19:31

It's beautiful. I agree with the russet coat. That will be lovely.

Kolo · 05/02/2021 19:33

It's beautiful! It's got some Christmassy colours in it (white, green, red) so I'm sure you can Christmas it up with the right accessories. I like the idea of fur.

SummaLuvin · 05/02/2021 19:46

The top being all white does concern me, has your DD considered that when you are all seated it will appear you are in a white dress?

Chloemol · 05/02/2021 19:50

I would go red coat, or some sort of dark pink pashmina shawl

xmasmob · 05/02/2021 19:50

@SummaLuvin I hadn't thought of that at all!

There's little chance of anyone mistaking me for the bride though...

OP posts:
Swearwolf · 05/02/2021 19:54

I don't think you need to worry about the white, especially if your daughter has seen it. Please don't worry about that!

I agree with the others, it can definitely be more wintery. I like the idea of grey!

FadedRed · 05/02/2021 19:57

It’s lovely. Get a faux fur shrug for the outdoors bit.

SummaLuvin · 05/02/2021 20:10

In your position I would just mention it to your DD to double check that it wouldn't be an issue. There will be photos of speeches seated that might be important. Then go ahead if she is fine with it. For me it wouldn't be a problem, but for some it might be.

Ginfordinner · 05/02/2021 20:24

If you were my mother I wouldn't bat an eyelid that the top half was white. I think that a sliver/white fake fur would look lovely with it, and very Christmassy.

keiratwiceknightly · 05/02/2021 20:32

I think cream fake fur jacket and some kick ass long brown boots - ideally heeled. You can always have a change of shoes for later if you want to.
It's gorgeous and you will look great!

lockdownalli · 05/02/2021 20:40

I wouldn't wear white to a wedding.....
