had enough of Jo Malone

The Christmas catalogue is written is such wretched prose I can't bear to put any more money their way. And anyone who calls wearing two perfumes at once 'a philosophy' needs to spend more time with Bertrand Russell and less with marketing consultants.

And (final part of rant, I promise) the last catalogue had celebrity endorsements from, among others, Ant and Dec. Really.

plus the stuff is really expensive...

LoveAngel · 31/10/2007 20:16

pmsl @ ant and dec. Does the chubby one with the big forehead favour the Orange & Gernaium room scent? lol

I really like Jo Malone but I just think her prices take the utter piss. It's a bit like that Creme De Mer cream or whateve rit's called. Emperor's New Clothes syndrome going on there methinks.

Yes agree re poncy, pretentious and irritating but I love the Grapefruit cologne.

I switched to Miller Harris Tangerine Vert a while ago - lovely, citrus-y and unusual. Daren't look at their marketing in case they've started talking concepts when they mean smells.

I agree that it's pretentious and dear, but has anyone found any candles that smell as lovely and last as long?

nangnangnang · 01/11/2007 09:22

penhaligons do lovely candles

i agree that for the most part it is a bit con but my friend sent me one of their candles when dd was born and i absolutely loved it and i hate scented candles.

HonoriaGlossop · 01/11/2007 10:38

Yes it is definitely what they used to call Pseud's corner, in that catalogue.....

But i agree MrsM I have not found any other candles so good - we have a small house and my one and only candle scents the whole place. No arguing with quality, daahlings.

diptique candles are the best anyway

and space NK teatime in marrakech ones are lovely

nangnangnang · 01/11/2007 10:44

Oh, Enid, love the sound of the Space NK one (see, I'm as much a victim of marketing as anyone, for all my protestations). They did a delicious one called Stillness but haven't seen it recently.

tis really nice

Not being a Londoner I've never had any... and I was put right off her by a Times mag. 'life in a day' piece when her boy was tiny and she essentially said she let him cry at night because she couldn't do her work if she didn't get enough sleep.

FGS she isn't finding the cure for cancer, she's making overpriced smellies and the world wouldn't really stop if she slightly misjudged a concoction one morning

I'm not usually that judgey about parenting but it got right up my nose!

nangnangnang · 01/11/2007 11:22

From what I've smelled she's been tending to her boy rather more of late (let's hope) - the mint in the most recent scent is lovely but the base notes are all yardley.
