French look

Always wanted to do the French look, have dabbled a bit and spent a lot of time in France but need more tips in terms of what to buy and where to buy it websites etc. My current boho style feels a bit "cluttered" now I'm getting older and a lot of my stuff is cheap and poor quality. Thinking of buying one key decent item a month. Places to buy decent make up also welcome. Smile

@ShangPie I really like these bags. I might wait till the shops open and go and fiddle them. I'm hoping for a soft, buttery leather which is light-weight but durable

I did like the look of the Sézane bucket bags but then read a few reviews saying the leather was hard. I don't mind that so much, it might last longer, but I don't want something which in itself weighs a lot.

Have you come any closer to your dream bag?

Try Cos pigs

Mansur Gavriel is the original bucket bag and the leather isn't hard or heavy but it does scratch quite easily. So the Sezane take on it could actually be preferable.

You also might like some of Danse Lente (not a French brand despite the name but fits the low key logo, sculptural shape brief) and Rejina Pyo. Harvey Nichols has a small Rejina Pyo bucket bag on deep discount at the moment but it is quite small!

@PaulHollywoodsLowHangingFruit I usually like COS but there was nothing which particularly caught my eye!

@ferretface that useful info, thanks. I might order the Sezane bag anyway and see. I can always return it.
I'm loving the Harvey Nichols one linked above...maybe I can have a brown AND a black bag!

Just wanted to write a quick update. I'm so grateful for all the suggestions on this thread and others, I've found some new beauty stuff I'd have never considered and been introduced to new, more ethical brands. So thank you!

For the last week, I've suddenly started getting compliments. It almost threw me off. DH always complements me, but suddenly people I work with (because let's face it, I don't see anyone else!) Have started saying nice things, like, You look pretty today, or, What a lovely jumper. Someone even said yo me they thought I'd changed something because I looked more radiant. So happy!

All I've done is a slight change of beauty routine, wear my hair down more and brush it less, ditched foundation for a tinted moisturiser and REALLY cull my wardrobe. I got rid of anything ill-fitting, fraying, faded, very cheap-looking and luridly coloured. I have stuff with nicer texture and better shape and slightly more muted colours. I polished my boots and handbag. I bought a very few things (fitted black tee and a Jigsaw merino turtleneck, plus fitted dark green cargo pants), everything else was already in my wardrobe, I just made a decision to wear it instead of defaulting to my trusted items which were tired-looking and baggy in the wrong places.

Anyway, just thought I'd share! I'm still on the hunt for the perfect ballet flats, bag and few other bits Smile

@Pigtailsandall
Aaah that's fantastic - good for you.

I'm sure you'll find the missing items from your wardrobe and have fun in the process. I can't help with ballet flats I'm afraid as I tend to walk clean out of them so they're a no no for me.
