Curly girl- hair looks curly/ good but feels awful and a touch greasy

I’ve been using sulphate/ silicone free shampoo and conditioner for a while now and just done my first co- wash, the curls look good and I can see the difference, but it doesn’t feel nice and the tops A bit greasy- will it get better? Is that normal? I used cantu curling cream which although definitely helped the curl I wonder if that made it sticky? It’s fine whilst working from home but it’s not the soft hair I used to know and love 😩 will it get better?!

I have found this too since doing CG. And I use the Cantu curl cream too.

So I’ve started doing a ‘proper’ shampoo every couple of weeks to get rid of the build up using a regular shampoo. A sort of strip-wash.

I don’t think co-washing is for every hair type every wash. I think you have to adapt the CG routine for your particular hair. Some people say that your hair adapts eventually but mine didn’t. It’s too much product for mine.

Hope this helps.

Honestly the CGM isn't the be all and end all of curly hair so avoid getting caught up in all the rules. Using sulfate free shampoo is good enough, you absolutely do not need to co wash, I do as my hair doesn't get greasy but I also clarify every 3rd wash.

I would ditch the Cantu unless you've got Afro textured hair, it's very heavy and doesn't mix well with other products.

This is really helpful, thank you both, especially about the cantu! My hairs wavier rather than curly and when I look back of pictures of how beautiful beachy it looked when I just used any old shampoo and conditioner, it’s annoying how frustrating it is to try and re-create that. Will try it another few days but if no improvement will just bring shampoo back in

It'll be the Cantu. My hair is coarse and dry but it made it look greasy. I much prefer the Noughty products. Agree with PP that Co washing isn't for everyone it made my hair quite flat so now I use sulphate free shampoo and my hair is much better.

I'm washing mine about twice a week, once with conditioner and once with neutrogena. Then conditioner, rinse and leave in conditioner. My hair feels great though it's wavy rather than curly. I don't use any styling products.

The thing with Cantu is it amazing (for me!) but is quite heavy. You really only need a tiny bit. It’s tempting to just pile it on because the pot is so big and it’s relatively cheap, but less is more I find.

Be very sparing and brush it through for even coverage.
