I want to buy him one for his birthday.
So, the brief is (see what I did there...?)

on-line shopping is good

£50 budget

He is in his 40s so not too teenagery but he is not a formal, suit-wearing type

Big enough for small lappy, phone, some papers etc.

Please help, I keep finding really naff ones.

That messenger one is even better

WideWebWitch · 28/10/2007 09:29

The one I got in JL is like the Nike one but without the logo - £25 but it's not leather. I think that's fine - I wanted something I could chuck out in a year if necessary

squishie · 28/10/2007 09:30

men with motorbikes all have them though and they're quite manly. dp has a neat little black rucksack and colleague has a very battered leather satchelly one.

squishie · 28/10/2007 09:32

oooh that spanish one's lovely www.

ghoulmoonfiend · 28/10/2007 09:32

In our motorbike days, we had scummy rucksacks....,,wistful>>

Have a look at Crumpler bags - they have their own (very silly) website, but you can get better prices from photography shops. I have a red Marry Ugly (I said they were silly) bag that I use for toddler accoutrements, and I don't think DH looks silly when he carries it.

TwigorTreat · 28/10/2007 09:40

I do think it depends on the Man tbh

a bloke in a suit will always look like a twunt

a biker / skateboardy dude type can probably carry it off

TwigorTreat · 28/10/2007 09:40

although the geek / laptop version is a route

ScaryScaryNight · 28/10/2007 09:47

This is a little Geeky - laptop bag

ScaryScaryNight · 28/10/2007 09:49

Is this Diesel bag too "youngish"?

ghoulmoonfiend · 28/10/2007 09:49

Ac tually Scary, I think dh would like that!

just get him a normal laptop bag, then he will look important, whatever he's wearing.

I travel on the train in Germany, and most of my fellow commuters carry bags (the men, I mean). Mostly laptop bags or rucksacks. Suits are relatively uncommon here, so it's quite usual to see a scruffy bloke working with a laptop on the train.

ghoulmoonfiend · 28/10/2007 10:05

He has a 'normal' lap top bag but it is too big and bulky. He is not being helpful in terms of colour, material etc. God I hate shopping for men!

My laptop bag is just big enough for a laptop, but I do have a widescreen one. Take him to a computer shop!

MrsBadger · 28/10/2007 11:37

Crumpler
