Jeans which will go over my arse - could anyone recommend a brand?

I am in desperate need of trousers. But I can't find any that fit. I was looking last year but perhaps not hard enough given lockdown. However it's the new year and I really should get out of the two pairs I have now, since they're going home fast! Could anyone please please recommend brands which may fit me? Frankly I think the post office is getting sick of me returning parcels.

I currently have two pairs of jeans on rotation and that's it. They are a Levi's W28 L32 bootcut and a Next 10L straight leg. They fit nicely. If I was in a physical shop I'd usually try a size 10 as a starting point and go up or down as needed. I haven't put on significant weight recently - the clothes I have haven't got noticeably tighter and still fit - although I'm almost certainly carrying a little extra after Christmas (I don't own scales so I can't say for sure but I ate a lot of chocolate)

I've ordered more than 10 pairs of jeans in W28 and W29 since the new year - and only one of them fit (on the waist - if they were a 32 length then I'm Bernard Manning). None of the others would even go over my thighs. The brands were things like Hilfiger, Next, Missguided, assorted random brands from ASOS. So I'm getting thoroughly fed up!

I got my tape measure out and my measurements are as follows (these are "snug" - i.e. not loose but not pulled tight - measurements).

Narrowest part of waist - 28"
Top of hips / just below hipbones - 37/38"
Widest part of arse - 41"
Inside leg - 32"

I am tall and have always been pear shaped. I don't know if it's relevant but I have violin hips / hip dips on the side rather than having regular round hips.

I am looking for jeans or corduroys but I'm open to anything as long as they're ok for a British winter! No linen perhaps Grin

  • I prefer blues, blacks, or greys for jeans but I am open to any colours really.
  • I prefer high waist or mid waist rises, I've avoided low slung jeans since my teens!
  • Any style apart from cropped, very wide leg, or very skinny is fine by me!

All recommendations for brands / styles in specific sizes which may fit me would be very very gratefully received.

Have you tried Next Lift Slim and Shape? I'm those hip measurements and take 12L. My waist is smaller tho not sure its as small as yours.

Lockheart · 14/01/2021 20:04

Next is usually my faithful go-to. I've tried so many of their jeans I couldn't tell you if I've tried those specific ones off the top of my head. But I shall definitely have a look, thank you.

Did you try Gap, OP? I think size 10 there would fit. Some of them are cropped, but you might be able to order a cropped style in long instead of regular.

I’ve said this elsewhere on MN recently, but the Sophia high waisted straight leg jeans at M&S are fab. Highly recommended

cheapskatemum · 14/01/2021 21:42

M&S magic jeans in size 10, the long leg length should fit you. From memory they come in black, indigo & blue and straight leg or skinny. I’ve got the skinnies in blue and love them.

Fluffyandsilly · 14/01/2021 21:46

Have you tried ASOS hourglass range?
I’ve bought oversized joggers from the range before Christmas and was really happy to finally find some which don’t pull on my sizeable arse and thighs.
I went on to buy a pair of their slouchy mom jeans from there and been very pleased with the fit. It made such a change to have jeans which actually fit on my waist!
I’m hourglass shaped, with a 28 inch, size 10 waist and 39 and a half- inch hips.

Fluffyandsilly · 14/01/2021 21:49

Forgot to say, I have hip dips too. Don’t know if that’s relevant.
And they do the hourglass range in quite a lot of “Tall” styles.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 14/01/2021 22:13

I am pretty much the same measurements as you. I buy multiples of jeans I like, and currently have on the go:

Whistles barrel leg - I went down to 27 waist for these, and have them in navy blue, light blue, and black
Levi’s 501 crop - 28 waist in these
Levi’s balloon leg - 28 waist
Whistles Hollie button front - 28 again
Monki Zami - 28 again, these are VERY high waisted and not comfortable for sitting at the kitchen table from 9-5 really

I also like cords, and have lovely pairs from Cos.

I tend towards a high waist, and do like slightly cropped legs. I’m 5ft 6 so these might be too short on you.

Zalando carry a lot of Levi's and is usually free or minimal delivery and free returns.

Lockheart · 14/01/2021 22:29

Thank you for all the suggestions, I've ordered some M&S ones to try! I will also have a look at all the others, the ASOS hourglass range sound interesting!

I have the M&S Harper and Carrie Jeans and both are snug but fit.

I'm 28 waist and 38/39 arse with similar love handle issue.

I got an 8 in Harper and 10 in Carrie. Should have gotten 10 in both.

withlotsoflove · 15/01/2021 07:48

@Fluffyandsilly
I agree!
I’ve recently purchased the flared from the hourglass range too.
I’m a 27-37 hourglass too!
I also have really good luck with NEXT360 jeans also.
Just thought l should try a different shape Grin

TableDesk · 15/01/2021 10:38

Salsa brand. Excellent for pear shapes with hips and bums. Also come in 'half sizes' ie size 9 / 13

bellagogosdead · 15/01/2021 13:28

I don't get it, you say you're not bothered about the size- why don't you just order a 12?

QueenPawPaws · 15/01/2021 13:28

Have you tried next hypercurve?

Fluffyandsilly · 15/01/2021 15:07

@withlotsoflove Yes! The ASOS Hourglass range is a revelation for me. It actually felt a bit weird to feel the jeans fitting my waist.

CausingChaos2 · 15/01/2021 15:12

I have a 26inch waist and 42inch hips, have several pairs of the M&S £15 jeggings in a size 10. Regular length fit me as ankle grazers, long length for a traditional jeans look.

Sasuma · 15/01/2021 15:57

I feel your pain! I’m a 26 waist, 38 hip and 34 leg Confused What I realised recently was the style of jeans is really important, so I can get a 26 waist in a more relaxed style - ‘mom’ jeans, wider leg or a barrel leg (I also have the Whistles ones @Judystilldreamsofhorses and love them, I’ve seen Levi’s do a barrel leg too) But if I try a 26 waist in a skinny/slim leg it’s too tight on my hips/bum/thighs. If I go up a size it will gape at the waist. So as well as trying on different sizes, I think it’s well worth trying different shapes and styles.

For what it’s worth, as well as the Whistles ones I’ve got jeans from J Brand - several styles - and Levi’s which fit well - Levi’s 501s. The Outnet is great for more premium brands at large discounts.

Lockheart · 16/01/2021 08:42

Thank you all! I have some more jeans arriving today (I have three packages to return to the post office as well!) from Next and M&S... Fingers crossed at least one of them sticks! If not I will try all the others. I've bookmarked this thread as it's got loads of great ideas :) thank you all again!
