Seventies Party - help! What to wear, how to do hair, makeup etc...

That's it really. Am thinking more disco diva rather than kaftan wearing hippy. I'm a size 12, straight up and down figure with a bit (ok, a lot) of a tummy.

Any suggestions gratefully received...

Ohhhh you need this thread - Onefootinthegravy has just the dress for you

ivykaty44 · 27/10/2007 21:38

boob tube all gliter and shiny tight satin pants with a big curly hair doo

Zog · 27/10/2007 21:42

That dress is truly barftastic

I think my boob tube wearing days are sadly behind me but I'm thinking along those lines. And what about make-up? I've got as far as blue eyeshadow and that's it.

How about this one?

Zog · 27/10/2007 22:00

You're a genius, that's perfect.

As you are now my Seventies guru, what kind of hair should I have? Do I need a wig?

WasherChainSaurusMassacre · 27/10/2007 22:06

Hmm is your hair long(ish) and straight? You could go for a centre parting Charlies Angels type flick....or you could get a wig

Zog · 27/10/2007 22:09

Nah, it's short-ish. Hm.

WasherChainSaurusMassacre · 27/10/2007 22:16

Could you sweep your fringe across your forehead. I always think that looks a bit retro

Zog · 27/10/2007 23:12

Mmm, it's pretty short...

Have checked the wigs and the one I want is sold out everywhere, so it's going to have to be full works on the make-up.

Any suggestions?

I think you'll definitely need some HUGE false eyelashes

Zog · 28/10/2007 20:32

Ooh yes, plus lashings of thick sticky lip gloss. I'm really struggling to google any pictures though.

You can still centre-part your hair even if it's short. Even more seventies (the unnecessariness of a parting).

Blue mascara, enough to smudge.

Recall a craze for peasant blouses (like last year's embroidered cheesecloth tunics, but skimpier) and frilly petticoats slightly longer than the full peasanty skirt that went over them. Wear with wedges.

If you are going trouser: with lycra leggings, legwarmers are key; or metallic trousers, need very high pointy court shoes.
