Hello all Toasties , a new Toast thread for us to discuss clothes and life..

Here's to new beginnings and a more hopeful Spring when we can get out and wear our lovely things.

I’m sorry for the blow by blow account here, but I need to vent. I am on the online chat. AGAIN. It’s been 45 minS. In that time, they have asked how they can help, and then I have got many many automated “I’ll be with you shortly” replies. Followed by them telling me that their system has crashed and they will be with me when they can log back in. That was 25 minutes ago. You couldn’t make it up! I actually do not know what to do at this point.

Floisme · 16/04/2021 19:26

I'm not a regular poster on here but just dropping by to say Shock

Some of my favourite things are from Toast and, while I'm not a frequent buyer, I've never had anything but an efficient and responsive service from them. Seriously troubling and makes you wonder what's going on.

I think in your shoes I'd just dig in ScottishMouse and refuse to get off the line until I'd had a response, no matter how long it took. Hope you all get something sorted.

ScottishMouse · 16/04/2021 19:40

Hallelujah! I have finally got them to cancel and refund the items missing from my order. Apparently I misunderstood yesterday, and they cannot cancel an order that has been placed, but they can issue a refund if the items are out of stock. What??? Why this can be done now when I was told yesterday that it was impossible, I do not know. It really seems that not only have their systems changed in a way that means dispatch & returns are much slower, but there seems to be a change in attitude as to how important the customer is. Having to threaten them with chargebacks and get far more difficult than I feel comfortable being should not be necessary to simply cancel an order and get refunded. Time to take out my sewing machine and start making my own clothes!

Fortherosesjoni70 · 16/04/2021 20:41

Good grief! So so glad you got your refund.
@Floisme - It is so very disappointing. They have been an excellent retailer in the past. I cannot think how long I have been ordering clothes from them. Lets hope something changes.

Templetreebalm · 16/04/2021 21:35

Shocking !
Im not ordering until its sorted out and only if JL/ shop dont have it.
Go for it @ScottishMouse.
Im considering a serger.

I went to JL and was shocked at the quality of the summer knitwear from Toast.
Very poor and shocking prices.
I looked at the Hemp tiered dress but would need to try it on.
A size 10 looked huge but the neckline /straps very high/ short in contrast.
Nothing else grabbed me really .

applecatchers36 · 16/04/2021 22:20

Feel that this is pretty unusual, is it usual for a well known/ established/ respected company who has built it's business (and loyal customers over years) to go to pot so dramatically and so quickly?

Im worried they might be about to go under. Its very unusual
Fortherosesjoni70 · 16/04/2021 23:06

Do you think it would come to that?

Templetreebalm · 16/04/2021 23:10

@Fortherosesjoni70

Do you think it would come to that?
Its the sudden chaos that seems to have come out of the blue.
Fortherosesjoni70 · 16/04/2021 23:14

Yes. It is very weird and the fact that they have maybe done this to save money?

applecatchers36 · 17/04/2021 00:28

Just think it is very sad to get to this point , such an iconic brand felled by such arbitrary changes, where is the CEO in all this?? Certainly feels like someone is asleep on the job 😴

AmethystMoonShine · 17/04/2021 06:08

So sad to read all of your horrendous experiences lately Sad
I’ve just been catching up on the thread as I’m in the throes of a house move at the moment. I’ll be giving Toast a swerve for now I think! Sad as I’m now about an hour or so from a Toast shop, I was only about 25 mins away previously. Still at least I have access, so many don’t. Mind you I’m not sure where my nearest JL is now? I need to check.
I hope they sort this out Confused

Larach · 17/04/2021 12:10

Like many of you, I've been buying Toast for more than 20 years and I'm really sad that the recent changes are likely to make me look elsewhere.

I know there's been lots of suggestions of Toast-like alternatives/additions in the past (like Lemuel MC and Carrier Company) , but I'm not sure if Selvedge has ever come up. They have a range of hand-made/artisan-made items, some of which are clothes, and whilst many of the prices are a bit eye-watering (because hand-made) there are still things which come in at below Toast prices e.g. this jacket. It's worth having a look if you're not familiar with it, especially if one of the reasons you like Toast is their support for artisans and craftspeople.

The other one is Bluebarn, which is made in Dorset and some of which has a Toastie aesthetic.

Floisme · 17/04/2021 12:46

Templetreebalm I must admit I'd been wondering the same thing. I don't even like talking about it out loud as it can become self fulfilling, but there seems to be a pattern of decline emerging that feels ominous. Are they still owned by a Danish company? That was the last I heard about a couple of years ago.

Glad you had some response in the end ScottishMouse
Thanks for those other suggestions Larach

faustina · 17/04/2021 14:04

I always get nervous when excuses start to happen as to why refunds aren't happening - twice my life I've been through horrifically frustrating things like that - endless phoning, endless 'it'll be actioned tomorrow' - followed by the end of the brand and no refund for me.

It would be a huge shame if such a well loved brand were to disappear - let's just hope the website 'upgrade' is a hiccup, and this time next
month they'll be back up and running properly again

@ScottishMouse - you have my great sympathy, and I hope your money reappears in your account - and @Larach - thank you! I am off to look at your links

ScottishMouse · 17/04/2021 16:11

Oh I really hope it isn’t the end of Toast. I am still really mad about the customer service I received, but I hope they can turn things around. I notice that the bad reviews I left on the items I ordered have not appeared, the emails that I sent on Monday and Tuesday have not had any replies despite them claiming to have a 48 hour turnaround, and the CEO has made her Twitter profile private. It really doesn’t look good. I still have two items to return, hoping I can still do that in store when they re-open here.

Bimblesalong · 17/04/2021 16:13

Well fingers crossed here as the too-large garments have gone back for a refund ... sizing really is all over the place.

AuldFox · 17/04/2021 16:56

The sizing at Toast is ridiculous. I have items from size 8 to 16!

Really hope they aren’t circling the drain though...

Laska2Meryls · 17/04/2021 17:03

Ill make a new thread..
Whatever happens with Toast, band I am 🤞🤞🤞its just a blip.. This is such a nice group of people im sure that we will want to chat.
