@ScottishMouse did you pay by paypal? If so, you can take out a case.
You will also be covered through your credit card. Can you do a reversal? Is that the right term?

Might be of help:

What Is Reversal of Credit Card Payment
Today, most people tend to make payments for goods and services using their credit cards online or offline. Sometimes after making a payment, one might have to cancel the order or transaction because of some reason. When such cancellation takes place, the credit card issuer might reverse the payment. A payment reversal is when a customer gets back the funds from a transaction. This process can happen in many ways such as customer disputes, authorization reversal, and sometimes also refunding payment. Each of these reversals takes place at different stages of the payment process and for various reasons.

When Is Credit Card Payment Reversal Required
Here are some of the transaction cases when you may have to opt for a credit card payment reversal:
Unauthorised transactions: Any transactions that are not made or authorised by you or an additional cardholder may require reversal of payment.

Inconsistencies: Items on your statement that do not match the item amounts on your receipt.

Refunds: Refunds or credits that have not been processed, or that were wrongly processed as debits.

Faulty or defective goods: Sometimes you may pay for goods but do not end up receiving them or if they get delivered but are not as they were described to be or that reached you in a faulty or defective state. Such situations require reversal of credit card payment.

Fraudulent transactions: A transaction that you believe was made fraudulently.

Mistakes: Transactions that were mistakenly charged to your account more than once.

Cancelled auto-payments: A cancelled automatic payment that is still being deducted.

Unfulfilled services: Services that have not been rendered.

ATM errors: An ATM withdrawal that dispensed the incorrect amount of money.

Cancellations: Charges for a reservation you made but cancelled within the cancellation period.

Ways to Reverse Credit Card Payment
Customer Dispute - You can file a dispute as a cardholder with the issuing bank. When a merchant receives a customer dispute it will have a reason code connected to it. The reason code explains the cause of the dispute, in other words, what the cardholder is claiming.

Authorization Reversal - Authorization reversals reverse a payment before it officially goes through. If you notice something incorrect after submitting the authorization request, you can call your bank to stop the transaction from occurring. This is known as an authorization reversal, and it’s highly preferable over a future chargeback or refund. The further a payment gets along its path to completion and the more entities it communicates with the more of a hassle it is to take back.

Refund – In case something is wrong with the product you purchased then you can opt for a refund. Instead of just cancelling the transaction like an authorization request, a refund completes the transaction in reverse. It’s like the acquiring bank is now paying the business instead of the other way around. It’s treated like a new, separate transaction.

Ways to Receive Reversal of Credit Card Payments
Cancellation of Purchase – As a credit cardholder, you have the option of cancelling any transaction that you may have made using your card online or at physical stores. You can either cancel the transaction directly or demand a chargeback. For direct cancellation, you have to cancel the order and the payment will be reversed in their bank account within 30 minutes. A chargeback is a way through which you can cancel your purchase if you are not satisfied with the service or product you bought. In this case, the banks will reverse the amount to the credit card and will not pay it to the merchant. You have to place chargeback requests within a period of 180 days, starting from the date of purchase.

Online Refunds - When you make an online payment for a product and then cancel your order, you may get a refund of the full payment. Before purchasing you should read the returns and refunds policy of the merchant you are making the payment to. Every merchant has their own refunds policy for cancelled orders. There are some websites that do not provide refunds, some have conditions on refunds, some provide points as refunds instead of cash and there are some websites that provide the full refund for a product without asking for a reason.

Double Swipe – In case you swipe your credit card at a store and receive an SMS saying you have been charged, but the machine does not provide a charge slip, then the store owner may ask you to swipe your card again. In such cases, you end up paying twice for a product because of a glitch in the machine. If you report such incidents to the bank, then your bank will forward details about the same to the merchant and ask them to accept the reversal request.

End Note

Credit cards offer a lot of conveniences but they also come with certain technology-related problems which may require reversal of credit card payment. As easy as it may sound, you as a cardholder would still have to go through the process of reversal of payment. Despite the hassle, what you can be assured of is the payment coming back to your account in case of any glitch. As narrated in the article, there are smarter ways to approach this and save time as well as efforts in the process.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 16/04/2021 12:05

Its just ridiculous you haven't got your money back. I mean, how dare they for goods that they cannot even send you out.

ScottishMouse · 16/04/2021 12:49

Thanks for this @Fortherosesjoni70. I didn’t use PayPal this time. I have requested a credit card reversal once before, so I could take a look at doing that.
Using a different device, I have now managed to leave bad reviews on the 5 items I ordered. I doubt it will do anything much, maybe it might prompt them to reply to my email requests. I might get on Twitter later or tomorrow if I get no joy.

ilovecherries · 16/04/2021 13:22

I had a terrible experience with them about three years ago, and on the back of it didn't buy direct for about two years after. I found then that it wasn't joined up, and customer services didn't seem to have the power to fix the issue (a dress that I received damaged and returned for a refund. They wanted to send it to a fabric technician to assess the damage rather than accept I had been sent a torn item) After about a month I contacted them via social media - wasn't nasty, just said I was having real problems and could they direct me to an individual who could solve the issue before I was left with no alternative but to initiate a charge back. Money was back in my account within an hour!

Gonegrey31 · 16/04/2021 13:33

I’m too busy with work to hang on to the chat line today but Toast has over £400 of my money, and no refunds or delivery of ordered dress. Over 2 weeks now. I will not be ordering from them again ! Absolutely shite service.

Shock what on earth has happened to them? Appalling!

I remember you posting about this. Just utterly shocking. To be honest, I haven't had any issues that I would need to contact them over. 2 weeks without your item and no money back? Just not acceptable.
Fortherosesjoni70 · 16/04/2021 13:43

I am not ordering a thing from them unless things change.

ScottishMouse · 16/04/2021 13:46

That’s terrible @ilovecherries, but yes, I think complaining on social media may be the way forward. I feel like I should give them another few days to reply though.

ToastCosILoveIt · 16/04/2021 13:52

Gosh, so sorry to hear of all of the difficulties people are facing with orders and refunds.

I am joining you all in not ordering anything again until I can be reassured that they are back to a good and responsive service. On the plus side, this will save me a fortune. On the minus side, I have several items on my wish list and the thought of a wardrobe without Toast going forward leaves a huge gap for me.

I am lucky to live in London so close to several Toast shops: I may venture into one at the weekend to try a couple of wishlist items on and think about buying. However, in principal and in solidarity I may chose to keep my money and spend elsewhere. The other issue is that I have at least one Refer a Friend code so reluctant to pay full price for anything.

Hoping you all get your issues resolved.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 16/04/2021 14:00

@ToastCosILoveIt sadly I am nowhere near a Toast shop so its just the stuff on JL for me or things from other shops. I do like Wrap London. Some nice things as has Poetry.
I have also found that refer a friend is not working as I had a few codes and they are no longer recognised by their new website.

ScottishMouse · 16/04/2021 14:06

I hear you @ToastCosILoveIt. I would be so very sad if I could not buy Toast clothes. I shop almost exclusively at Toast (and Toast stuff on eBay). I am lucky to have a shop near me too, although I’m in Scotland, so they are not re-opening for another week or two. My principles may not last that long, but I will definitely only shop in store or at John Lewis if I do go back to them.
The first items from my half missing order arrived today. It is the dry cotton sleeveless tee. It is nice but not £65 nice. If I had only ordered one size, I would be tempted just to keep it to avoid the hassle of returning, but seeing as I ordered two sizes, I will have to return anyway. I think I will hang on and return to the store though. Here’s hoping that still works as it used to (immediate refund to card), rather than the way some places do it and just send it back to the warehouse for you to be refunded there.

Is there a toast shop in Scotland? Where abouts?
Fortherosesjoni70 · 16/04/2021 14:26

In Edinburgh? Not even the JL in Glasgow seem to stock Toast anymore.

ScottishMouse · 16/04/2021 14:36

Yep @Fortherosesjoni70, it‘s in Edinburgh, in Stockbridge. Opened maybe 2 years ago.

ScottishMouse · 16/04/2021 14:36

The JL hate stopped stocking Toast a while ago, though it is undergoing major refurbishment, so I hope it will come back.

ScottishMouse · 16/04/2021 14:37

Here, not hate!

I didn't even know that. Its still a bit of a distance for me although not as far as London and still possible. Im near Glasgow.
dudsville · 16/04/2021 16:44

That's helpful to know Scottishmouse. I just checked my royal mail receipt and saw that Toast received my return 9 days ago - I've just emailed to ask when they'll be processing but I guess it'll be soon judging by what they told you 2 days ago. It's a shame as I held on to another item to consider whether I wanted it and only today decided to return it. I want to forgive them their IT teething issues but it's annoying when cheap clothing companies get these things done so quickly. Is it intentional perhaps to reduce the number of returns, to make us think harder about whether we really want the item? I do have a shopping addiction but at this point the only thing that's going to stop me is ... well clearly something worse than a pandemic!

ScottishMouse · 16/04/2021 17:04

A nice day out for you when restrictions allow @Fortherosesjoni70!

ScottishMouse · 16/04/2021 17:37

Well, obviously @Fortherosesjoni70!

ScottishMouse · 16/04/2021 17:38

No email today, so have tweeted Toast and their ceo. Feels a bit scary. So not like me to do something like that.

ScottishMouse · 16/04/2021 18:20

So I am totally ignorant about how Twitter works, but up to earlier today I could see Toast’s CEO’s Twitter page, and now I cannot, like she has blocked me or something. Seriously?
