Duffle coats on men - yes or no?

Hekate · 27/10/2007 12:19

I am looking for a coat for dh. Duffles look warm but I can't help seeing them as kids coats and a bit daft on a full grown bloke.

What do you think

Duffle on DH - daft or dapper?

Hmm, I like duffles, but on men? No I don't think so. Would make them come across as a bit girly. Some women like that though don't they?

HairyIrene · 27/10/2007 12:22

er no
i'll up the cute onn toddlers and add cartoon characters

Hekate · 27/10/2007 12:23

Yeah. Just as I thought. Poncy on a bloke.

Ta.

Depends on the man. DH bought a duffle last year and it looks good but he's tall and broad and could never be girly in 1,000,000 years - he's weather worn and old

Hekate · 27/10/2007 12:25

whoopsie.

sorry Fran. Am sure your dh is not a ponce.

DeathByPruners · 27/10/2007 12:27

I like them
On whippety-thin artsy types
I know a tall tousle-haired cellist who wears a duffel-coat

pollywollydooooooooodle · 27/10/2007 12:28

no, no, no, no,no!

tiredemma · 27/10/2007 12:28

Dp has a lovely Paul Smith duffle coat.

he can be a bit poncey at times.

norkmaiden · 27/10/2007 12:29

yes, like them. With big woolly scarves. Mmm.

pointydog · 27/10/2007 12:30

no no and no

Foppish students can just about get away with it. Fully grown men, no.

FranSanDisco · 27/10/2007 12:32

Oh don't worry I'm gonna call him poncey later and see how he responds - pmsl.

fortyplus · 27/10/2007 12:50

ds1 had one when he was a student - very bad news on anyone over 25, I'd say. Unless of course you leave it till you're 70 when you don't care any more - they are lovely and warm. A bit like Ugg boots, really...

milward · 27/10/2007 12:51

dapper

pointydog · 27/10/2007 12:58

lol @ dapper

Is that a comment for or agin?

tigerschick · 27/10/2007 13:02

Agree with Pruners - Can look fab on the right bloke but can look awful, too.
You would need to try one on him and see IMHO.

SpeccieSeccie · 27/10/2007 13:06

Yes to duffel coats on men. They can look delicious. Probably do have to be tallish though.

I very fancy the sound of Pruners' cellist.

DarthVader · 27/10/2007 13:07

Nice on intellectual type blokes
Bad on short or tubby blokes

lailasmum · 27/10/2007 13:25

My husband had a lovely black wool duffel coat, it was a gorgeous coat, we were really upset when it got ruined in a fire in our apartment block, the fire brigade poured in so much water to put the fire out and then it snowed with no roof on the building and in the 3 months we couldn't get back in our clothes went mouldy sob sob...

If you get one in a nice fabric and with nice details its a lovely option.

Snaf · 27/10/2007 13:28

Depends entirely on the bloke. If your dh is 6', slim, dark tousled hair, slightly foxed cuffs, perhaps wears glasses and has a slim volume of verse in his back pocket, then yeah, maybe.

(And can you send him my way when you've finished with him, please?)

DeathByPruners · 27/10/2007 13:52

You know, I have just tried googling my duffle-coated cellist
He is in a band who are doing ok in London/bit alternative
I can't find a photo of him anywhere! How's that for not publicising yourself...
He's sublimely beautiful

FrannyandZooey · 27/10/2007 13:55

My dp had one and IMO looked fab

he is bored of it now so I wear it

Hekate · 27/10/2007 15:09

No Snaf. Dh is about 5'9" and 13 stone, triangular (broad of shoulder, narrow of hip), black and bald (technically, he shaves his head, but you can see that the front of his head is tooooooo shiny. Ain't no hair there, hell no )

MrsBadger · 27/10/2007 15:57

reefer much better alternative, though get single breasted one if hefty
