I really like these boots but dithering - HELP needed!

I saw these and I really like them, but they're made by Clarks which has prejudiced me against them slightly! Dunno why, just conjures up visions of tiny old ladies and school kids. Anyway, I'm quite tempted, but they look like they might be tight on the calf (am not a stick insect) and at £90 I want to make sure I get some fab boots that I'll love and wear for years.

Anyone seen anything along that line? I also really like Camper boots but they're way expensive, although I might think about it if they had the holy grail of boots and I was going to wear them for years.

Can't really do heels, or at least not big ones as am already 5'9 and look like a freak in anything higher than an inch or so.

They are really lovely. Clarks do seem to have some funky styles this year. Having siad that I got mine from Duo because of the calf issue!

CristinaTheAstonishing · 27/10/2007 10:42

They're a bit too flat, I think (I'm 5'7" so i'm also used to looking at low heels). The look is quite "country" IMO so I don't know if it would go with more dressy clothes, unless they're brown. I like them.

bohemianbint · 27/10/2007 10:46

Hi Rose - ah....will check out Duo. It's so crap when you realise you can't get the zip up on boots, I'm scared to go to schuh and try them on in case!

I've jsut found HELTER SKELTER these as well. Really like them.

Thing is though, here's the next problem - brown or black? I always prefer the brown ones but is black more practical?

(It's rubbish being a Libran, I can't just buy something, I have to drive myself mental dithering and involving everyone in the world in the torture!)

Cristina - x-posts re the colour, but yeah, I really like the brown. Plus, to be honest, I don't really have much in the way of dressy clothes anymore, which is ok cos I only go out about once a month! Sniff...

like them apart from lack of any heel, doesnt seem to sit right when i look at them
brown boots are lovely and just as pracital as black but have more warmth imo

if it is a good pair you are looking for its worth going the extra i think if you can...

LyraSilvertongue · 27/10/2007 11:02

I liked them till I read they're made by Clarks.
I'm looking for a good pair of knee-high flat boots too but can't find the right pair.

bohemianbint · 27/10/2007 11:09

Ha, glad it's not just me being funny about Clarks. I was quite shocked when I saw that, and they look even nicer when I saw them in RL too. It would not be cool if the tag on the back says Clarks...

What do you think of these? I'm sorely tempted...

bobbiewickhammerhouseofhorror · 27/10/2007 11:49

I am wearing some Clark's boots as we speak!
They are from the Icon range, so they look proper Cornish pasty. But, if you embrace the cornish pasty look, and wear them with fairly hippified stuff, I think you get away with it (hope so, anyway). But, my God, are they comfy. I feel like I'm hovering when I wear them.

Go on - do Clarks! It's liberating!

pollywollydooooooooodle · 27/10/2007 11:59

i like them....and i love my clarks boots from last year, they are flat and really comfy and always look good...so much that i bought brown and black in the sales! i am of the flat footed, larger calf variety...give them a try....as for £90, they usually reduce the price of boots in clarks about mid november time..

pointydog · 27/10/2007 12:53

The boots look good. Clarks do come up with some pretty good styles every now and then so don't let the name put you off.

shreddies · 27/10/2007 13:29

Lyra, those are gorgeous! But wouldn't you want to try them on?

LyraSilvertongue · 27/10/2007 13:38

I'd love to try them on but that would involve a trip to Spain

tibsy · 27/10/2007 13:50

love the first pair (clarks) theyre gorgeous. i'm a libran too, so can understand the dithering

bohemianbint · 27/10/2007 20:44

Soooo....want to know what I went for?

THESE! (well, not from Ebay, but these are the ones...)

Bit of a shocker, haven't owned a pair of docs since I was a student, but they looked ace. I tried the clarks ones (calves too fat - gutted!) and I didn't think they were as nice as the Red or Dead ones, which they only had in black. I was going to order the brown ones off t'internet when I wandered into Sole and found these and changed my mind!

Only thing is, they're a bit of a bugger to get on and off - think it's just cos they're new and very stiff leather?

LyraSilvertongue · 27/10/2007 21:04

Hmmm, I have to say I liked the Clarks ones better but if they didn't fit...
Did you look at the ones on my link? I ordered them this afternoon but they'll take 4-6 weeks to arrive

maximummummy · 28/10/2007 15:33

ooooohhhh i love them

Tinker · 28/10/2007 15:36

Clark's boots are great, no reason to be funny about them, honest. Have revamped themselves a lot in recent years.

maximummummy · 28/10/2007 15:37

i loved the clarks ones
liked the DM's too i expect they'll loosen up soon

bohemianbint · 28/10/2007 18:05

Hey Lyra, your boots looked good too, shame about the wait. You never know though, they might be underpromising and overdelivering!

DM's loosening up already and I'm liking them more by the minute. Really comfy!

Thanks for all your help everyone through this very difficult decision. I hope that these'll do me for a few years as I really can't cope with this on a regular basis!
