Is there such thing as a fashion magazine for 12 year olds?

My DD 12 is interested in clothes, fashion and trends but try as I might I can't find a magazine suitable for her for this age, covering those matters.

I don't really want her reading issues pertinent to an older teen, 17/18 years.

My DD has Weekly which covers news/age appropriate politics etc but nothing containing the fashion pages like Grazia would do. I never buy magazines anymore so don't know where to start.

Any suggestions ladies, have you come across anything suitable?

I think it's called The Internet!

It's highly unlikely that any successful magazine won't have shifted its focus to its online output. I'd imagine all the places teens like for clothes have some sort of online presence.

Centuries ago I started reading Vogue when I was about 14 - and have never stopped. I wouldn't prevent a 12 year old from reading it, but might want to balance it with other things.

(Other people might be able to tell you about Teen Vogue - I know nothing about it though some of the rumours have been ... unsavoury.)

Noted and thank you, I think you're right!

I don't think there's anything wrong with Teen Vogue - although it's online-only now, for the same reason that you can't find magazines just for teenagers: they read everything on their phones.

I used to read Teen Vogue myself when I was around 13-14. They do talk about politics and sex and things sometimes, which might be what previous poster was referring to, but typically in an information-focused kind of way. You can go on their website to see what their views are.

No because I had a look in Waitrose the other day and mentioned to DD 13 the magazines I had as a teenager and there was nothing similar.

Sittinbythetree · 11/01/2021 11:15

Teen vogue has massively inappropriate content!

PronounssheRa · 11/01/2021 11:18

I wouldn't be happy with a 12 year old reading teen vogue

I think I started reading Vogue around 13, there was a stack of old ones in a house we stayed in on holiday and I was hooked! I used to cut out all the logos from the ads and cover my exercise books with them. You can always buy a copy and see how she gets on with it?

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 11/01/2021 11:23

What about setting her up on Pinterest? Then she can "digital" scrapbook and it links to lots of fashion articles.

Floisme · 11/01/2021 12:26

I pretty much went from Bunty's Cut-out Wardrobe to my aunt's copies of Vogue. Part of the reason I liked it was that it was a grown-up magazine. I'm a bit out of touch now with pre/early teens though so wouldn't like to make a call on whether it's still appropriate.

Clymene · 11/01/2021 12:30

There is an awful lot wrong with Teen Vogue. Much of Grazia/vogue etc content is online now. Teen fashion is going to be on Instagram and blogs now, not in magazines.

Floisme · 11/01/2021 12:35

Does she want to read about teen fashion though? I didn't at 12 - I wanted to see grown up clothes.

But I agree a magazine might not be the best media any more.

IHateCoronavirus · 11/01/2021 12:50

Top of the pops magazine has some clothes bits in.

JaneJeffer · 11/01/2021 13:00

I would get her Hello Fashion.

Is there such thing as a fashion magazine for 12 year olds?
Girlyracer · 11/01/2021 13:33

Thanks everyone.

Yeah it's more about fashion, and she says herself when we look at some shops online that the clothes are too old for her (ie you won't let me get away with that).

More like the fashion pages of Grazia but without all the celeb stuff. What's in the shops now etc.

Hello fashion looks good and thanks for the feedback.

Is there an equivalent of The Clothes Show now? On Youtube or wherever? I'd have loved something like that at 12.

AgnesNaismith · 11/01/2021 13:47

Ohhh I loved the clothes show and clothes show live!

For proper fashion, if she is seriously interested I’d just go straight in with Vogue. In fact I’d probably direct her to French Vogue.
