Emergency make-me-look-amazing (and young) advice

I have a series of interviews, unexpectedly soon, for a job I really really want - all on zoom. The trouble is I am the fattest I've ever been, my face has broken out in rosacea including my eyes which are puffy and weeping (waiting for a GP call), and my make up has largely run out.

Please could anyone recommend:

  • eye brightening/whitening drops?
  • serious anti puffiness stuff? does haemorrhoid cream really work??
  • best brown eyeshadow sets (I usually like Boots, Bourjois, mac, maybe benefit)?
  • should I use an eyebrow pencil too? (does that make you look younger and glossier..)
  • is there any kind of teeth whitening that I can get my hands on in the next four days?! I was hoping to have it done properly when I get a job... or any tips to help them look whiter? I usually wear fuschia lipstick (Mac Relentlessly Red)
  • any other tips? I'm already using cream for the rosacea. I have Benefit concealer and foundation as well as pore minimiser but I find that weirdly makes them seem worse.

Basically, any advice at all to make an underconfident knackered mum of 2 look less like I'm crawling under the weight of age, lockdown and homeschooling - I'd appreciate it!

Not sure what to wear either but if anyone has done zoom interviews and has suggestions re what to avoid/aim that would be amazing.

I’d get a ring light, or set up lights at home that make you look great. I am fat and knackered (on mat leave) but looked pretty good at a work zoom party over Christmas after I spent half an hour sorting out various lamps and flattering angles. I’m sure you look better than you think. Good luck!

A plain neutral black, ehite, beige top and bright unstuctured jacket is plenty - smart enough for anterview and comfy enough to be related in. Agree with the ring light too. Bright lipstick should help too

A ring light is the best thing I've bought for looking good on Zoom. Mine was only £25 on Amazon
For rosacea, I'm using Rosalique as the green really covers it well, then I put a bit of ELF putty concealer on my nose to cut the shine.
A bit of contouring (I just have a cheapy Barry M stick) makes a world of difference in giving me nice cheekbones. Not a full Kim K thing, but just a bit in the hollow and blended in.

Do your makeup and keep checking it in the Zoom settings video preview. It helps me choose lipstick that looks right, and make sure my eyes don't disappear.

Don't forget to look at what you are wearing on camera. I have a particular necklace I'll wear for formal presentations as I can hoik it right up into view, and informally wear a bright scarf or high necked top as it looks much better than just a black neckline

Get down your local pharmacy to ask about eye drops and start them asap for the puffiness and redness. They should be able to give you steroid drops and ointment which will work quickly

Thank you so much! Ring light is genius, any particular ones? I'll go to pharmacy for sure too.
I have a navy dress with a small stand up collar which should work, and can look at a blazer. I think I have a lighter navy patterned one which might work.

Off to look into contouring etc...

This is the light I have (it must have been on offer when I got it) , but I doubt there is much between them tbh. I needed the floor stand as my desk isn't deep enough to have it on there, and then it is just above the top of my screen. Obv you need your laptop/camera raised up so you are looking up slightly into the camera, and then you are also into the light as well so no funny shadows which helps

StrawberryLipstickStateOfMind · 08/01/2021 17:16

Does the ring light make a big difference? I'd be scared I'd look worse! I really want something that makes me look better on zoom!

Fuschia or any cool toned pink lipstick tends to make teeth look yellower IME. If you want whiter looking teeth, true red, coral or red/brown shades work better.

Eyebrow pencil or powder definitely helps, as does mascara - if you’re able to wear it at the moment?

Totally agree about getting your lighting and angles right.
