Wanted: comfy but not slobby wide leg jersey trews. The holy grail?

I'm 42, 5' 8", was a size 8/10 pre children and COVID, but am now a 14 with most weight around my middle.

Like many I used to scrub up and work in an office - heels/slim trousers/shift dresses etc, but now spent half my time running round after a 2 yr old and the rest trying to WFH in a sodding freeing house. I feel fat and frumpy.

Due to my fatness an shape I find waist bands uncomfy and prefer soft fabric rather than gathered elastic - if that makes sense. I've ha no luck finding jeans that fit and are comfy but have LOVED a pair of jersey palazzo pants from Me & EM (eBay find) that are sooooo comfy, decently flattering and I live in them. But they aren't warm.

Where can I find warm, well made, flattering and comfy wide leg (probably) jersey trousers that don't break the bank? Thinking £50 ish.

I found the m&s ones to be more bootcut than wideleg and they faded dreadfully

Orf1abc · 04/01/2021 16:13

I've got these, very comfy and thick without looking thermal, if that makes sense!

Have a look on monki they have loads. Get some leggings or longjohns to wear underneath. I’m nesh af so i always wear long woolly socks or longjohns (or both) under wide trousers in winter.

Baukjen Marlon Jersey wide legs, amazing quality. A bit over budget but you'll get a discount code online and they'll last years

chickadeee · 04/01/2021 16:52

Hush have the best comfy ones. Size down through, they come up v big.

oldnormalplease · 04/01/2021 17:34

Are these any good? I've got a pair. I'd say they're true to size.

I’ve got maybe four pairs of the White Company wide legged jersey crops - they are lovely. I wear them with a jacket for work and a slouchy cardigan and polo neck at other times.

goose1964 · 04/01/2021 21:45

These are warm and not bank breaking
www.peacocks.co.uk/lds-yoga-pant-6dae77.html they're also quite long

waltzingparrot & Theunamedcat they look nice, but the bootcut issue worries me. I haven't worn bootcup since the 90s!

Orf1abc I've only tried paperbag cut once, and it really emphasised my apple shaped middle!

MadameButterface - I had to Google 'nesh'...! I don't like wearing an under layer on my legs ideally, unless we're talking minus temps. But I'll look at Monki, thank you.

Gillybobs - ooh, I like the look of those! And if they last I might be able to swallow the price!

chickadeee - I've not tried Hush. Thanks for the pointer on sizing!

oldnormalplease - good tip - thanks!

FourTurnings - I've got other White Co stuff and like it, I find it comes up big. Maybe for spring? My ankles would object to crops at the moment!!

goose - great idea, thank you!

I saw some in Tesco the other day. Sort of knitted fabric, looked very warm and wide legged. You’d probably get 3 pairs for £50!

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 06/01/2021 13:59

Seasalt usually have some, although the selection is limited at the moment.
They have these tapered ones.

IndecentFeminist · 06/01/2021 19:38

Uniqlo normally have this sort of thing
