Petites: what clothes are you buying at the moment?

I'm just about 5ft tall. Unfortunately I'm not petite in a Kylie Minogue way though I'm not fat either. I'm a size 8 with curves (which, from the look of my average height friends vs me, makes me look like I'm a size 12 if I was average height).

What clothing are other petites buying lately, please? I'm asking because, even though I'm buying petite sizes; midi dresses make me look like I'm wearing someone else's clothes. Puff sleeves and smock dresses swamp me and drop hem dresses fall in the wrong place, making my hips and bum look big.

All I've bought recently is loungewear and (yet another) pair of Uggs.

For Christmas DH bought me a pair of ethically sourced diamond earrings and necklace so I don't need jewellery.

I would like to stay stylish and current.

What has everyone else been buying?

I got a few pairs of mom jeans from Asos after my parents got me a sweater dress from there for Xmas. Im 5 ft 1 and since having DSs I've worn short cotton dresses with leggings or skinny jeans with a jumper like its uniform. But im only 28 and want to try to keep up with trends too.

Icenii · 03/01/2021 20:40

Nice jeans from Mint Velvet. But I struggle with tops and dresses. Teenager jumper dresses. I do like flowy blouses with skinny jeans and lace vests. Boden do lots of summer dresses I like.

Im not buying anymore at the moment. I'm getting out my sewing machine and adjusting clothes.

I'm 5'3 but have v short legs and a long torso. I'd really like mom jeans if anyone has any links?

I have a very small waist and no bum but enormous thighs. I'm a 6 on top and a 10 or even a 12 to fit over my thighs

WillowSummerSloth · 03/01/2021 20:56

I'm 5 foot. I've recently bought some things from Boden petite. The coat was amazing and fitted so well but the size 8 dress still drowned me. Measures big and still quite long.

SmallPeople · 04/01/2021 17:37

That's a good point, I have found Boden to be a good fit and good quality in the past. I'm still wearing clothes that I bought from there a decade ago. Unless I'm looking in the wrong place their petite selection is a bit plain ATM. If I'm looking in the wrong place please point me in the right direction.

I've got chunky-ish thighs too bluewool. They were at least toned chunky thighs until the first lockdown hit and I stopped running.

Mom jeans don't suit me, my waist is tiny. I've found flares are good for me. I bought some from Abercrombie & Fitch and some from M&S, so I'm not talking old skool flares but more exaggerated bootcut jeans.

I really wish I could sew Icenii, I'm trying to shop ethically but I'm finding it very difficult to source brands which are both ethical and petite. I like Anthropologie for flowy tops again though I'm not sure about their ethical credentials.

Urgh I feel your pain WillowSummerSloth inconsistent sizing is so frustrating. I'm a classic hourglass I can be anything from a size 4 to a size 12.

Has anyone found any key pieces that are flattering to bring my wardrobe up to date?

That last sentence should say to bring my petite wardrobe up to date.

How are Anthropologie sizing? I like the look. I'm under 5 foot.

I'd love some tie dye vests this summer.

SmallPeople · 04/01/2021 19:43

This is probably outing if anyone here knows me IRL. I love Anthropologie, they do petite sizes in the US but sadly not over here. Occasionally you can pick up petite sizes on eBay. Their regular sizing is huge.

That wasn't very helpful of me.

In general, if you are a UK 8 size down to a 6 in fitted clothes or a 4 in looser clothing, depending how loose the item is/how busty you are if it's a top or how big your tummy/hips/thighs are for bottoms.
