What are the best jeans for big-hipped, slim-waisted women?

I can't be the only woman this shape, surely???!

I've never found a pair of jeans that didn't gape round my waist if it fitted over my hips. Can anyone help me out on this one?

I have a reasonably slim waist, and size 14/16 hips. I like asda jeans, and Dorothy Perkins. Perhaps you need low rise jeans, so your waist measurement doesn't come into it.

I've had some success with some M&S limited collection jeans, but others for same range have been terrible. Gap long and lean are OK, and I've now gone up a price range and am in GAS, which are perfect

breadgirl · 24/10/2007 20:40

i have this problem so never used to wear jeans, that's why i love hipsters/low rise jeans so much. Or maybe try high waisted?

maisiedaisy · 24/10/2007 20:40

What do I tuck my stomach into if I wear low rise jeans?!

TigerFeetInLovelyNewShoes · 24/10/2007 20:41

What size are you? My hips are a 20/22 and my waist more like an 18. Best fitting jeans I have atm are from Evans - boyfriend style ones. Before I put on all the weight I found Dotty Perkins was good.

BrummieMomInMerthyr · 24/10/2007 20:43

I love the slouch fit jeans from next, they fit nicely under the waist and properly on the hips - and wear longer tops to hide my stomach!!

TuttiFrutti · 25/10/2007 18:55

Am a size 12/14. Will have a look at Dorothy Perkins - thanks for the tip, Mrsmerton and Tigerfeet.

Prufrock, what is GAS? Never heard of it, but it sounds like I need to.

I've had some marginal succes with Monsoon jeans. But I wouldn't say it was unqualified and some of their styles are rather frumpy.
My waist's a 12 and my rear end probably a 16 in trousers, so also want to know abvut this GAS business

prufrock · 25/10/2007 22:12

They only have UK stores in Cambridge and London (Duke of Yorks). Italian brand. So designer looks and styles (denim is great quality and ones I am wearing right now have gorgeous leather trim on pockets) but cut for la bella figura. They also size in single inches (so 30, 31, 32 etc) I think you can get them in other stores, and definately online if you're not in London tutti. Issy - get thee to the Kings road now. www.gasjeans.com/page.jsp

I don't know many mothers IRL who can (or at least, should) wear low-rises. I thought the whole point of jeans was their corset effect!

I have proper waist, but tum and bum. And I'm only 5'1" too. Also I'm 46... its a long time since I've been in Dorothy Perkins, thought I was well too old for it...

I tend to go to M&S and try on everything in a short fitting that isn't low-rise and hope something fits close enough!

bookofthedeadmum · 25/10/2007 22:25

I'm a 14 on my hips and 12 on my waist. I can't get 12s past my hips (ok, my thighs!) but 14s have to be really cinched in with a belt if they're not going to hang down, showing off my underwear like a teenage boy . I'm going to pay a visit to that shop .

Sazisi · 25/10/2007 22:46

I have big hips/small waist and Gap jeans are the best fit I've found, not too pricey either
