I'm in the mood for a massive clear out; clothes, books, home decor... If it's not been used/worn, it's going!

The problem is, I have a coat that I'm massively attached to. I've had it a few years and it's proper scruffy (as confirmed by many family members) but it's so bloody comfy!

Any help on motivating me to chuck it out? Xmas Grin

Have you got something similar to replace it then you can throw out the scruffy one ?

Do you feel brave enough to put a photo up of the Offending Article Xmas Grin

I have a cull regularly but some things steadfastly glue themselves to my wardrobe .
Including That Leopard Print M&S Coat that my DD hates and I bloody love . It only comes out on occasions , I only wear it with black skinnies, top, boots, bag . No leopard'n'Converse for me , I am too old .

Snackasaurus · 11/12/2020 14:56

@70isaLimitNotaTarget That would be very outing 🤭 I've only ever seen one other person wearing the same coat!

I'm terrible for not throwing things out but now I'm in the mood, I want to make the most of it Xmas Grin Problem is, ill take everything to the charity shop and come out with more. Clothes, books and random 'shite' as my DH calls it just seem to throw themselves at me in charity shops Xmas Shock

Keep the scruffy comfy one, such a thing is priceless Smile Compensate by chucking out two other things in its place.

Snackasaurus · 11/12/2020 15:00

@sergeantmajor Thanks for the good idea! Xmas Grin I have thrown many scruffy items over the years but this one, I just can't part with!

I am good at taking things to the charity shop and seem to be a magnet for their wares too, including random 'shite'.

Gothere · 11/12/2020 15:43

Chuck everything, just keep the coat.

MikeUniformMike · 11/12/2020 15:44

Keep the coat.

Charity shops are a bit sneaky IMO. You pick up a book and take it to the till and they say '50p, but you can get 3 for £1'. I'm surrounded by books.

TwinkleFairyLight · 11/12/2020 16:18

I'm all for getting rid of things in theory until I see them again in reality. Then when I see them I can't bear to part with them because generally I love what I buy, I just don't have the occasion to wear them, but in throwing them out/giving them away it would be like accepting I will never need a fancy coat or dress or shoes ever again and that's too depressing.

MikeUniformMike · 11/12/2020 20:17

Twinkle, if you love it, keep it.
Make the occasion to wear it, even if it's just a trip to the supermarket or school run.

Snackasaurus · 11/12/2020 20:20

I've kept the coat and stored it in a cupboard I barely use so when I eventually see it again, it'll be like new all over again 😁

@MikeUniformMike You sound just like me!!

They are very sneaky indeed! You go in with the intention of buying one book and one book only to prevent your bookshelf from collapsing and they throw a deal like that into the works!

OP posts:
MikeUniformMike · 12/12/2020 10:53

You know about my bookshelf!
That reminds me, I need to drop off some things at the charity shop.
I keep finding boxes and boxes of books. Need to sort them out.

Snackasaurus · 12/12/2020 12:36

@MikeUniformMike get them sorted! I've already got two bags ready for the charity shop of clothes etc and now I'm in the mood for being ruthless, there will be plenty more. Well, hopefully!

Even donating 21 books which is a record for me. Xmas Grin

MikeUniformMike · 12/12/2020 12:41

I've got two bags, light enough to carry, ready to go.
There are a few books in them. I've also got a couple of novels that could go in. One's been read and i only read a few pages of the other one.

Snackasaurus · 12/12/2020 12:51

@MikeUniformMike you could always donate them and then buy a couple more that you may read? Xmas Grin

OP posts:
MikeUniformMike · 12/12/2020 12:59

No! Shock
I've overdone the shopping this week. I even accidentally bid more than planned on ebay things.

MikeUniformMike · 12/12/2020 13:03

These were things I had no need for.
I'm trying to get rid of stuff not buy it.

I had something listed on ebay that's been on there for ages, and I thought maybe it would sell if I took it to the CS, but it's got a bid on. Yay!

MikeUniformMike · 12/12/2020 18:15

Took them, came back with no books but 4 items of clothing.
