Big lips are beautiful...but they're not the ONLY lips

Hi,

Just wondered if I was alone in thinking that big lips and big lips alone, are massively in make up fashion right now.

Don't get me wrong, I think full lips can be absolutely stunning, but since CT Pillow Talk collection launched, there seems to be this constant trend for that bee stung/allergic reaction look.

I got stuck in a beauty scroll on Instagram earlier and noticed that I hadn't seen one set of lips that weren't really really full and drawing the line quite far outside the natural lip line seems very popular too.

So is it just me? Where's the diversity?

The problem is where you're looking. Instagram will be full of enhanced features, so much so that it begins to feel like the norm.

@Hayeahnobut, I know what you mean, but it really does feel like it's filtering down everywhere.

It looks fine in pictures but in real life it can look very flat and almost like mouths are stenciled on.

For balance, in South Korea they're all getting lip reduction surgery, not so much to get thinner lips but to get a small pouty mouth.

Lisa Eldridge recently made a video as well on how to line lips so they don't look so overblown and more narrow and pouty as well so your lips don't appear to be dragging down at the sides. I'm guessing that very overdone and overlined look is probably on its way out soon enough to be replaced by another difficult to achieve beauty standard. Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

@botemp, ah yes, I know the pout you mean.

I thought this thread was going to be about something else.

@FridayWineTime Haha 😂 That's really tickled me!

Yes, I probably could have phrased it better 🤦‍♀️

It’s always struck me as strange that the late Princess of Wales was, and still is, regarded by many as incredibly beautiful even though she didn’t correspond to current beauty norms:

  • small mouth with modest sized lips
  • long, quite large and slightly crooked nose
  • short hair
  • asymmetrical face
I wonder if the extreme filled look will lead to a volte face and thinner lips will again become fashionable. Who knows. I prefer natural full lips and generous mouths, - not like mine, but I prefer mine to duck lips!
