My boots are all covered in mould, is there anything I can do to save them?

I'm so upset! I keep my boots in the bottom of my wardrobe every year but for some reason this year they are all covered in mould. My flat does have a problem with condensation but I've kept on top of it in previous years, so I don't know why this has happened this year. Can I salvage them or are they sob for the bin?

Hopefully others can provide proper advice.

My worry would be that the chemicals you use to eradicate the mould might themselves ruin the boots so you may have to repurchase

What materials are the boots made from?

If they’re leather I would let them dry thoroughly. Then wipe with a damp cloth. Let dry thoroughly again. Clean with a leather cleaner or mild soap (not detergents!) and dry again. Give them a polish and they should be grand. I had this issue with a leather bag and it’s been fine since.

Damp cloth dipped in a vinegar and water solution and wrung out. Wipe. Change cloth if rank. Dry boots in sun.
