Just that really. I work in an office and always wear trousers and a blouse. I'm a size 12/14 and a bit of a stomach and err on the side of safe and very boring. However I love dresses and skirts. I bought a few in the black Friday sales and while I think they suit me, I'm not sure and DH is of no use because he is always complimentary. 🙄

My issue is that my new clothes represent a major shift in my dress sense and I'm very self conscious. I bought knee high boots, such a change from my comfy loafers. I'm 47, middle aged with a bit of a tummy. Also, I'm not very pretty. I am haunted by my school days when I got teased so much when I started wearing doc martins and being asked if I was trying to be trendy that fron then on really, I've worn boring non descript clothes for fear of standing out and being talked about .

So, has anyone braved a very different style and it has worked (for context, I bought a few shirt styles dresses from Hobbs and I think it looks good, but I'm plain and I don't know of I feel conscious that I am trying to look pretty (impossible) and in actual fact look ridiculous 🙁

I love both the dress and the skirt, you look like a formidable but sexy librarian who turns out to be instrumental in solving the murder Xmas Grin

Just nipping on to say I really live the dress!! Well, both outfits actually, but really really like the dress. You should feel confident because you look smashing. X

Gorgeous! The dress & boots together are super stylish & super classy!

Another one loving the dress here. Less a fan of the skirt, it feels staid to me. Love the dress you linked to can definitely see you in a patterned wrap dress

SquirrelFan · 06/12/2020 14:01

I love the skirt, like the dress. Both look good on your body (with no face, can't tell if it's a good colour on you!). How do they feel?

Flowerblue · 06/12/2020 14:22

They look lovely and make me want to try something similar. Peri menopause definitely does something to you. I have worn nondescript clothes to work since forever. Can you get practical dresses and skirts with pockets?

PJsEveryday · 06/12/2020 14:48

You are all very kind, thank you.

@vangoghsdog - the boots are from next, only £60 full price. I've not worn them outside yet but they feel really comfy.

By dress are people meaning the burgundy outfit? Its actually a skirt and top in the same colour and it has really decent pockets which i didn't know abiut when I ordered it but its great that it does. I can see that the lighter grey skirt might look a bit staid but its one I feel reasonably comfortable with wearing soon.

Love the idea of a sexy formidable librarian @afaloren Grin I'm as far from both as its possible to be Xmas Grin but I'd love to have been a librarian.

@squirrelFan thank you. they feel fine on, and fit well without feeling too tight or digging in. And I feel pretty comfortable in them so I really should just wear them Xmas Grin
