? so I could also order the next size down & send one back ( half price at the moment )

I would say in most things I am a 12 but ordered a coat ( from somewhere else ) in a 12 and could not get the zip done up.

So are Lands end generous in that 14 - 16 will be too big ( purpose of coat is for dog walking so - being cosy ) ( I think I am somewhere between a 12 to 14 in most sizing )

I’ve only ordered from LE once and had to send it back as it was enormous. It was also much longer than I expected though (5ft 4in).
I actually checked the size label as I was sure they must have had a mixup.

So based on my experience I’d say size down or order both sizes just in case. Hopefully someone else will be able to help

Until recently I worked in a department store and we got loads of returns of Landsend coats which had been bought online, for the reason they come up so big.

@BathshebaWasOnTheRoof & @Florial Thank you both - I may have to order the slightly smaller size as well - I am not petite but some coats a 12 - ( I am not tall ) but I measure and last one had to go back as way too small ( different make )

I am so looking forward to shops being open again as I measure and measure & look at a coat & thank that looks nice and then read ( I paraphrase ) "model is 6ft 10 and a size XS . Well I am not. Grin I may order the size down whilst on offer. Thank you both - There is a similar Barbour coat but sold out everywhere & I found this one and it is pretty much similar and half the price & will do the job I want it to. I think they are decent quality - are they not from what I have read on here - for the purposes I want it for

Thank you both Flowers

They size huge. I’m a busty 10-12 and have a down gilet from there in a size small which is a bit baggy (I do like to feel hugged by gilets!) so am contemplating buying one in an XS, which is ridiculous, I’m a BMI 24 and bra size 34G, no way should I be wearing XS tops! But the quality is really good

I'm a similar size to you, a solid 12 and I recently ordered two things from Lands End. One was a light down puffer jacket, and I ordered the small- it fits fine with a light jumper underneath but wouldnt fit a chunky jumper underneath and still be able to zip it up.
I also ordered a fleece jacket to wear around the house and ordered the Medium, and that isn't a lot bigger to be honest. A normal 16 would drown me, and it's nowhere near a 16. They seem quite similar in size really. Not sure if that's helpful or not!

I am under the impression that Lands End use American sizing, that is why it is so big. Lands end 8-10 = UK 12-14 etc.

They do use US sizing, but even when you adjust to UK sizing it still comes up large

I generally take a size 12 in Marks and Spencers. I ordered the 14-16 in a Landsend puffer coat and it was huge.
Wish they did a 12-14.

BasiliskStare · 03/12/2020 11:41

@Fairyliz - exactly. I actually ordered the M & then regretted it the next day but we shall see when it arrives. I think I just had a flash of - there's no way I am a 10 - before I pressed the button, , but it looks like I will rue not taking all your advice. I should have ordered two - but the miniscule 12 had only just been posted back for refund and there was only so many puffer coats I wanted on my card at any one time. We shall see when it turns up. It's taking a while , but perhaps they simply are finding it hard to get a pantechnicon big enough to carry it Grin

Well all @Fairyliz @pointyshoes @allmycats @Greenvalleysightseeker @justawoman & @BathshebaWasOnTheRoof - coat has arrived - it's a little generous but to be honest not too much it is not ludicrously big & given this is for walking dogs etc and a padded coat down to shin length - I am never going to look svelte in it - but a nice straight cut with zips up either side from hem so I am pleased. Their idea of navy isn't mine but a nice darkish blue and am keeping it & it was half price so all in all Hurrah hurrah - I am very pleased.

Thank you all for advice
