I need a raincoat thing for the school run - please help me find a nice one.

I realised this morning that
a) - I hate the rain and the dreary weasther and it makes me miserable and short tempered with my children and
b) - I don't really have a suitable rain coat/mac for the school run that I can just put on over anything and pull the hood up as I can't be doing with an umbrella when I have the pushchair and the gates to content with.

I saw quite a nice one today (the make of which i have completely forgotten) but it was grey! I'd like one that is a cheerful colour to try and help lift my spirits a bit but not too outlandish that the children don't want to be seen with me!

So far I have tried River Island, Next, small M&S but also looked on line, Debenhams on line, La Redoute, Millets, Boden (quite like their ones but two of the mums in DS's class have them), local department store that has Hobbs, Phase Eight, Naughty, Timberland etc.

Any ideas very gratefully received. Knowing our lovely English weather I would expect to get quite a bit of wear out of it so I'm willing to spend up to £120 for the right thing although I would love to get it for nearer £50

TIA

this has been discussed countless times on MN I'm afraid

do a search

consensus seems to be there is one Boden option and nothing much else really

sorry

CappuScreamO · 16/10/2007 22:17

oh dear

go search the old threads love

this has been done to death in the past weeks

every coat that exists has been tramped out

mckenzie · 16/10/2007 22:19

sorry, I think I must have put some naff criteria in my search fields as I tried the search first and got nothing back. Off to try again.

Put rain coat into the search, and scroll down to the style threads - there are a fair few.

CappuScreamO · 16/10/2007 22:25

try 'coat' and 'hood'

and 'boden'

mckenzie · 16/10/2007 22:37

I'd searched under this heading but for 'rian' instead of 'rain'. Now I've done it properly I've seen the 2795 previous threads

I saw a woman with a lovely (non-boden) one in Costa yesterday but forgot to ask her where she got it

will loiter there on a rainy day again and hope she reappears

today I went to Debenhams (in Welwyn) and found not 1 but 3 that were pretty near perfect!
The first was John Rocha so a tad pricey but lovely and I would have got it only they didn't have my size. The second was by Maine, metallic silver/grey, with a hood, about £50 and very stylish (according to the shop assistant) but in the end I got one from the Debenham's own Petite range. It's more shower resistant than rain proof but it has a hood, deep pockets, it's metallic grey so not too depressing a colour and it was only £45.

is this the John Rocha one?
can't see the Maine one here
and this isn't the Petite one, is it?

blardy website

mckenzie · 17/10/2007 21:20

yes to the petite one (do you like it?) but I'm not sure about the John Rocha one - I thought it was more expensive that that?
The Maine one isn't on the website which is a shame - it was a great coat.
