Boots over jeans

OK, then, what are the rules here? Eg, do you have to have skinny jeans in order to get the boot over the jean? Thing is, I look a right ar$e in skinny jeans so once the boots are off, I'd have to hide ... or get changed.

The only reason I wear skinny jeans with boots is to be able to tuck them in!
If you can get your bootcuts in yer boots then you go for it

MamaG · 16/10/2007 12:47

but it looks shit if you've got a folded "jean leg" going into a boot IMO

Walnutshell · 16/10/2007 12:50

Ah, yes, the folded jean look. It's quite poor. But with the skinny jeans, if I go into a 'shoes-off' house I will have to become a laughing stock for the sake of someone's floors.

Yep sorry bootcut jeans tucked into boots look awful....I guess the only way this would be bearable would be in the jeans were very tight over the knee and calf and only flared around the ankle (topshop have some called Skinny Flare and may, just maybe, these may be acceptable tucked in)

The first time I wore skinny jeans it took a while to get used to me in them but that doesn't last long (same for round-toed shoes)

Skyler · 16/10/2007 17:40

I bought straight leg which tuck in well but don't look as silly on me as skinny with the boots off. I got my pair in Tesco for £10 and they are brilliant.

lizandlulu · 16/10/2007 19:10

im also looking for some straight leg jeans to go with boots. i am a size 20 and skinny jeans would just look wrong on me!!

Skyler · 16/10/2007 19:33

I think there are quite a few straight cut trousers/jeans around at the mo. I would like a black pair next I think.

Walnutshell · 16/10/2007 20:43

Gemy - I have those TopShop jeans (in fact, 3 pairs of them!) and I can confirm that they still dont' look good tucked into boots - mind you I was trying them with my existing boots which are quite short, not my boots-to-be which will be almost knee-high!

Now, I know you say you have got used to how you look in skinny's, but I'm sure I just look ridiculous. I'm not fat, but my legs aren't particularly slim IMO.

Skyler, good tip, I will look in Tesco's - lizandlulu, you could look with me!

its not very ofter i go to tescos, but the last pair of jeans i had from there had a really big body area ifswim. the waist was quite high and the croch area was massive!

MamaG · 16/10/2007 23:00

Dotty Ps have nice straight leg jeans at the mo

Trendy mate bought some today in grey for £15 - v nice but she is tall and slim

I love round toed shoes

Walnutshell · 17/10/2007 10:20

Oh no, I don't want a massive crotch area! I will head to DP instead then.

Skinny jeans and boots, but never shoes for me. Got a great pair in Asda - nice pocket detail too.

Skyler · 17/10/2007 12:24

The ones I got from Tesco are great in the crotch area, honestly. They have the lycra/elastene too. They are a really dark blue denim. Perfect.

Gemy · 17/10/2007 13:32

Aaah walnutshell I thought maybe the skinny flare would do the job. But if your legs are shapely (even if not super-slim), you should look very nice in skinnys even with boots off

I do think skinny jeans with flat shoes don't look that great though (on me at least) so maybe try them with a pair of high heeled mary-janes and you may find (because of the leg elongating effect of the heels) that you start to like your skinny-jean-clad leg minus the boots!

There are lots of "cigerette" jeans about that are a good option, and other posters say look ok with boots tucked in (though I'll have to reserve judgement on that, still think if not ultra fitted around knee, and top calf then skinny jeans still best bet)

Walnutshell · 19/10/2007 07:59

Thanks ladeez. Will go to Asda & Tesco & DP this weekend and let you know.
Gemy - "shapely" - now there's a good description! I'm not very tall which is more the problem, I think if you have long legs, even shapely ones, you get away with a lot! Having said that, I'll give it a go. I'll take dh, at the very least it will give him a laugh

Thanks everyone, need to get some jeans to tuck into some boots so I too will be heading off to suggested places

Walnutshell · 19/10/2007 08:46

Yeah well Quootie, lurking's all well and good, but not if you've got long legs!

Is every pair of jeans this season high-waisted? I realise I am stuck in a fashion time warp, having been nowhere near the shops in the 7 months since becoming a mum, but all I can find everywhere is high-waisted, narrow-legged styles. I'm petite and slim but I HATE high waists: doesn't anyone remember what Trinny and Susannah say they do to your backside??

I would like (assuming still "in") a pair of skinny, low rise jeans which I can tuck into boots. Am still wearing low-rise bootcuts which I'm hoping are still contemporary enough, but I wear them over ankle-length boots and nowhere seems to have anything but knee-length boots this year!

bealcain · 19/10/2007 12:27

currant bun, i have to say that i;ve jsut bought some lush skinny's from next.....they're great, my first pair of skinnys, and believe me skinny and me dont usually go, but these are ok.

Walnust. i wouldn't worry about having to take boots off inside. where some really loud funky socks to take the attention away from the trousers!

Gemy · 19/10/2007 13:45

Currentbun IMO the bootleg jean over ankle boots look is "out". Sorry - if you were wearing your bootcut jeans over shoes, then that'd be ok (bootcut with a pair of cute round-toed shoes poking out looks really nice actually and is still "in")

Gemy · 19/10/2007 13:48

Yeah give it a go walnutshell and remember to stand on your top-toes when looking in mirrow to give you the look with heels

HUNXXXX · 19/10/2007 13:49

yes well ti may be out but i look liek a panto charachter in jeans tucked dinto boots
tis ok if you haev NO HIPS

CurrantBun · 19/10/2007 14:32

Oh well, Gemy, I'll just have to be "out" then. I far prefer wearing boots to shoes, and especially hate anything round-toed or flat. I could still wear knee-length boots under bootcut jeans anyway ...

bealcain · 20/10/2007 10:05

i have to say i've jsut got new boots ordered from next and i got the 'wide' ones so my jeans look better underneath and i can wear a slight jean and it doesn't look crap!!! yay! no more skinny jeans worry.

sorry to hijack but on a similar note i ordered a new top from next, it's a cowl neck thingy, quite long in green, but do you think that these dress tops need belts to look better? i cant deiced!
