The Pixi toners - retinol/glow/vitamin c: is there better out there?

WellTidy · 02/11/2020 08:57

My skincare at the moment is cleanser, hyaluronic acid, eye cream, moisturiser.

I’ve used the Pixi toners on and off over the last couple of years but haven’t noticed them doing anything. Is there better (stronger?) out there for a similar price please?

I am 45, skin rarely reacts, combination with pigmentation.

I never got on with the Pixi toner although I know people rave about it. I love the REN AHA toner and see a real difference using it.

WellTidy · 02/11/2020 09:03

Thank for your reply. I used that REN product after I got it in a beauty box and I liked using it, but didn’t see any difference in my skin. Maybe I need to put my contact lenses in!

I have similar skin and don't seem to find Pixi glow tonic makes a discernible difference. Found the Ren one left skin feeling almost as though it had a film on it. More expensive but much more effective is the Alpha H liquid gold, and liquid gold rose. Swipe on in the evening and leave overnight, really does make skin look better in the morning.

Nonamesavail · 02/11/2020 09:05

Aldi dupes. Honestly really good. My skin looks the best it has ever done. I'm even not needing to wear foundation or bb.

WellTidy · 02/11/2020 09:07

Ponks- where would I insert the alpha h liquid gold in the order that I put things on please? Is it a substitute for one of the things I am already using or an addition?

I’ve seen that alpha h mentioned a lot on this board and have always pondered giving it a go. I’m an Estée Lauder girl generally (if I’m not using up advent calendar and beauty box items!).

Second the Aldi dupes.

The Lacura Vitamin C and Retinol tonic are just as good as Pixi's ones.

WellTidy · 02/11/2020 10:43

Thats great to know about the Aldi dupes being just as good as Pixi. But is there anything better? Maybe not a toner as such. If not, I am more than happy to spend less and buy the Aldi ones.

For vitamin c, The Ordinary ascorbic acid powder mixed i to day cream is very brightening, plumping and firming.

For retinol, look at tretinoin 0.025% or A313 ointment 2 x week at night and build up slowly.

I get better results with lactic acid than glycolic. The Ordinary 10% is good.

Krazykaren07 · 02/11/2020 10:54

The M&S Formula Glow exfoliating toner. It's in an orange bottle £10 friend recommended it as it has almost the same ingredients as the pixi Glow tonic.
Really liked it plus it's cheaper!

supportivemyarse · 02/11/2020 11:00

Lotion P50 (quite expensive but one of my essentials, I'm 50)

Alpha-h liquid gold is fantastic and the ordinary also excellent.

petitdonkey · 02/11/2020 17:10

Not what you asked for but if you’re an Estée Lauder fan- their retinol is just lovely. Not strong but I saw Sali Hughes recommend it snd it’s great. (Her Guardian columns on skincare and makeup are fab)

lindyloo57 · 02/11/2020 17:15

Alpha- h liquid gold is the best I think, its often on offer on qvc

Ponks · 02/11/2020 17:30

@WellTidy the Alpha H is used at night after cleansing. I also use an eye cream but you don't have to moisturise afterwards, in fact they recommend you don't as you get a better effect if you just leave it. You only use it once or twice a week.
The Rose version is particularly nice.

ParadiseLaundry · 02/11/2020 17:31

'I get better results with lactic acid than glycolic. The Ordinary 10% is good.'

Me too. I also like azelaic acid. Glycolic dries my skin out a bit too much. Obviously it works really well for you though OP, just commenting in case anyone wants to try something different Smile

Anotheruser02 · 02/11/2020 18:16

Niacinamide is good for pigmentation, regulating oil on the greasy bits and reducing moisture loss for dry areas. It's like one of those power ingredients that every skin type will benefit from. I think most well-known brands make a version now I've used Inkey list and Revalution London versions both very good, people rave about the ordinary one and even superdrug make their own serum now with niacinamide and zinc.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 02/11/2020 18:18

@supportivemyarse

Where do you get your P50? I always chickened out when faced with the bloke in Liberty because he refused to sell me it without an in depth skin consultation first!

FreeButtonBee · 02/11/2020 18:27

Another P50 fan here. You have to stand firm with the sales people. First time is worst. After that you get away easier! And also they do quite good samples. The placenta cream is amazing (although sooooo expensive I just can’t)

CharlottesComplicatedWeb · 02/11/2020 18:43

I’ve been trying the ALDI copies. Very good.

WellTidy · 02/11/2020 18:54

Ok, so I now have in my list:

P50 (the original one, not the P50V or P50W)
Alpha h liquid Gold
Estée Lauder retinol product
Niacinamide containing product (for the pigmentation, thanks v much for the steer on this)
Azaleic acid containing product

May need to ask Santa!

@LadyOfTheCanyon Embassy of Beauty off Kensington High Street. They do mail order via their website. very handy at the moment, I’ve not been near London since January. I’ve also restocked from Liberty once or twice, love it in there.

Agree about sales assistants and amazing samples though, a consultation is worth the time but unnecessary if you say you’re just restocking.

QueenofLouisiana · 02/11/2020 20:25

I’m using the Beauty Pie retinol and the Aldi glycolic acid pixi dupe. I alternate them but some sources say you can use them together. Lots of SPF too!

LadyOfTheCanyon · 02/11/2020 21:28

Thank you very much!

Deathraystare · 03/11/2020 18:58

What are the Aldo ones called?

Mumtumwobble · 03/11/2020 21:33

I’m not keen on the pixi toners. I don’t think they do much. I’ve been using Dr Glycolic from Beauty Pie. I get an instant glow whenever I use it. Fantastic stuff.

ShowingOut · 05/11/2020 08:37

Try the SuperDrug Naturally Radiant Glycolic Tonic with 5% glycolic acid. Just as effective as the Pixi one, and MUCH MUCH cheaper!! They often have 2 for 1 deals on it as well.
