Does anyone else look bloody awful in a scarf?

Maybe I’ve got a short neck or maybe I’m just the wrong age for this stuff ie. I look stuffy and old, not edgy or elegant.

My mother would always dress an outfit with a scarf and it looks fabulous. I am now 40+ and have SO many scarves that I don’t wear. I haven’t a clue how to tie the bloody things and I end up ripping them off.

I want to look edgy and interesting. Not old. What am I doing wrong?

I don't think it's you, I think it's the scarves. They're a bit out of fashion at the moment. That makes it much harder to do something edgy or elegant with them. Give it a year or two and they'll probably be cutting edge Grin

There's a whole huge range of scarves - big blankety ones, silk, long wrap round and round ones, pull over snoods. Some of these may be more 'in' than others, but there's bound to be something that suits. They're a necessary functional item as far as I'm concerned anyway, September-April at least!

I look untidy in scarves and not in a good way. I've got curly hair that bunches up on top of the scarf so I look like I've got no neck. I also have a pointy jaw so the overall effect is not elegant!

Me, they just get in the way and make me too hot / irritate my neck. I have only ever had one that I've really loved and suited, its a very thin devoré one which is so soft I can barely feel it and lies very flat, most stick out too much - I have a fairly big bust.

Yes, the fancy non wooly kind they age me by about 10 years, I think its because I have big boobs

EerilyDeleted · 29/10/2020 23:21

I do wear them sometimes in the depths of winter but if I'm walking anywhere I soon get too hot and end up having to carry them.

moofolk · 29/10/2020 23:41

I love scarves. Soz.

Best thing about autumn.

And good as a face covering if you haven't got a proper mask.

I do have a freakishly long neck though.

DramaAlpaca · 29/10/2020 23:45

I don't look good in scarves, which is just as well because I find them annoying and they always get in my way.

minipie · 29/10/2020 23:52

I love scarves. However, I only buy the ones that go all the way round in a loop these days, because it’s impossible for them to slide off or look too wrong. I have a couple of cashmere mix ones for winter and jersey ones for spring/autumn. Have you tried those OP?

Countmeout · 30/10/2020 08:24

I love a scarf. Mind you I could never rock a headscarf like the queen, I seem to have a cheap face.

WokesFromHome · 30/10/2020 08:27

I look OK in a wooly scarf but if I attempt to wear a scarf to enhance an outfit, I look like Hilda Ogden.

justanotherneighinparadise · 30/10/2020 08:31

Woolly scarves are fine. I can rock those in the winter. It’s the lightweight scarves that I struggle with.

I want to look fabulous in one and instead I look dowdy. My theory is it’s just age. If you wear one when you’re young it’s a statement piece, when you’re old it’s to cover an ageing neck or to keep you warm 🥴

Not sure how I look in a scarf but woolly hats oh no. A cross between Benny from Crossroads and Eric from SouthPark!!!

Those silk/chiffon scarves? They arent really in atm, but when they come back in fashion, there are loads of French vids on youtube to help.
