Where to buy 1930s style jewellery

I'd like to buy my friend some lovely earrings for her birthday. She loves art deco/vintage/ 30s style jewellery.

Don't have a fortune to spend (up to £100) and I'd prefer actual silver rather than silver plated. Any good sites I should look at?

You should go to an antiques shop. If you say where you live roughly, you'll get recommendations. If she really likes deco, she will prefer something small and real. If you live in Yorkshire, Cawthorne antiques centre is amazing, a real Aladdin's cave.

Ah, no, I'm down south - so shops in Kent/London would be great.

Etsy can be good for stuff like this. Just make sure it's actually art deco, not just styled to be

Stressingismyhobby · 27/10/2020 23:27

Ooooh, they're lovely!

V&A Museum shop might be worth a browse. These are pretty.

Try Ebay ‘Art Deco fine jewellery’ and switch your search to ‘auction’.

More lovely suggestions - thank you.

loads on ebay

Antiques markets are best in my opinion - I got art deco (I think) moonstone and amethyst drop earrings from there and Ebay are very good too.

there is a cute antiques store called Castle Antiques Centre in Westerham

Courtyard Antiques in Brasted, Kent

The Old Cinema in Chiswick

Myself I'd probably try Portobello Road too but not in this pandemic climate!

This. Some on Etsy can be styled to be a certain period.
reepicheepsconscience · 28/10/2020 11:24

eBay or Etsy. Both have been sources of bargains for me.

I'm not sure if it's still there but look up Christopher St George in Cecil Court, off Charing Cross Road. It has the most fantastic costume jewellery including, the last time I went, lots of Art Deco/1930s style stuff, as well as much more. IIRC the guy who ran it couldn't have been more helpful and for the quality I thought the prices very reasonable.

catsmother · 28/10/2020 11:36

That should be Christopher St James, not George!!

Try V by Laura Vann

Wow can't believe no one has mentioned Butler and Wilson! That makes me feel so old. I loved deco style jewellery back in the day and bought some beautiful pieces from them. I think the physical store is long gone but they were still online last time I looked

mrssmiling · 28/10/2020 20:24

Puppylucky thank you for reminding me of Butler and Wilson! Such gorgeous jewellery. Enjoyed this article... www.vogue.co.uk/fashion/article/butler-and-wilson-50th-anniversary-collection
