WFH wardrobe

I’m going back to work in 10 days after maternity leave, although will likely be largely WFH rather than in the office. Obviously I’m rather out of the loop as have been busy with baby... What do you recommend? What are people wearing to keep warm and professional and yet homely, these days? What have been your lockdown wfh wardrobe best buys? Looking for inspiration!

I'm so cold WFH even though I'm sat right next to a radiator! You realise how much more you move when you're up and down in the office.

But... I made the best purchase last week - Primark leggings with fur on the inside. So warm! These plus a vest, t shirt and thick cardi and I'm all set.

SkyeIsPink · 24/10/2020 22:40

Leggings and any top, and usually a hoodie.

Literally, no one cares what you’re wearing as long as you’re not obviously wearing pyjamas 😂

NeedWineNow · 24/10/2020 22:59

I've got some tiered tunic/dresses that I wear with leggings or jeans. Look nice on the top half for our Teams meetings. Fridays are my 'casual days' so I usually wear some jersey combats (from Poundland of all places!) or knit yoga pants from Peacocks with a toning hoodie. I always shower, put on jewellery and perfume and a little bit of light makeup. Makes me feel more in a work frame of mind.

Gillybobs · 24/10/2020 23:00

Ponte trousers from baukjen, either wide leg or tapered with a side stripe. AMAZE. Knitwear from uniqlo, just brilliant value for money. Bamboo socks from.BAM, I didn't know such comfort and softness existed 😂
I've also bought a few heatech vests to wear under blouses for the odd occasion where I'm on any external zoom call

afrikat · 24/10/2020 23:02

I live in leggings and Hush Jersey tops

MrsFriskers · 24/10/2020 23:26

I have beautiful dresses - untouched. Beautiful footwear - untouched. Jewellery - abandoned. All destined for EBay. WFH, I wear block colour jumpers and cheap leggings and warm slippers. I smear on Origins bb cream and some lipstick for a Zoom, and amp up the Zoom enhancement tool. When I appear in the office, it’s a A-line shift dress, same colour tights and knee boots, or cropped trousers, and a Cos top and fugly flat shoes.

@Coffeepot72

I find I still need to look presentable, to be in the right frame of mind for work though - I still set the alarm every morning, then it’s shower/hair/make-up. Then my brain knows it’s time for work
Me too, except it's work out/shower/hair/make up/breakfast/2 mile walk. I'm naturally an early riser 😂

I don't feel professional if I'm not 'dressed' (so not PJs or work out clothes). I wear jersey or knitted dresses, or jeans with a nice jumper and accessories.

Passthecake30 · 29/10/2020 16:05

I wear 20 year old jogging bottoms and a selection of cheap tshirts and hoodies. I try to rotate them so I don’t always look like I’m wearing the same thing. Also big fluffy boot slippers. Lots of meetings via team happen without the camera on, handily. I don’t feel like I need to be dressed up for work, I just need to be comfortable. The only people that wear smart clothes I’ve found are the overpaid subcontractors we recruit.

CMOTDibbler · 29/10/2020 20:34

Normally I am either with my team on calls so it doesn't matter massively what you wear, or with customers so I need to be formal from the waist up. This week I have loads of customer video meetings 1:1 where I'm showing them something physically so am really centre screen. I've dug out jersey and fleece blazers that I wouldn't wear face to face with a customer, but look great on camera and are super warm. The one I have on now is a Lands End navy fleece, and I'll be wearing a jade green boiled wool one tomorrow.

To begin with I dressed in scruffy jeans, t-shirt and hoodie but it felt wrong so I am now wearing dresses (loving the corduroy dresses from Sainsbury for warmth and comfort), with knitted tights and a thermal underneath. I do my hair and put on a bit of makeup too, for me I feel a bit more in work mindset if I have made a bit of effort.

MAA1527 · 30/10/2020 21:35

I must say I have also been doing my hair and makeup just in case I have a last minute video meeting so I can just do a quick clothes change (top half only hehe) to make myself look more "work appropriate" Smile

BestIsWest · 30/10/2020 21:58

Tunics with pockets have been a godsend too - My wfh Office is in the attic so I am continually up and down stairs carrying phone, coffee, tablet and other bits and pieces. I don’t need to be formal at all as most of our calls are conducted via teams with camera off to save bandwidth.

Isaidnomorecrisps · 31/10/2020 09:42

I love wfh! Am going to get proper slippers after reading this - have been in trainers or thick socks.
I wear polo necks on top (every woman in my office has the Zara ones with buttons on sleeve and are wondering about the new slightly batwing!). Jeans below.

Actually for me the most important thing is thinking about my face - I didn’t wear makeup (I barely wear any anyway - moisturiser, mascara, lip balm) for a while.
But I’ve started again now. Takes a minute and I’m definitely more human online.

tearstainedbakes · 31/10/2020 10:10

Oh my god ! There's a zoom enhancement feature?! This is brand new information which I'm very happy about.

I wear leggings and sports bra / leggings with a top or dress over it so that if I ever get any down time through the day I can nip on the exercise bike.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 31/10/2020 10:16

I'm not in a corporate role but do have video calls on WFH days, so top half is the same - merino jumper or a blouse, light makeup, hair done. Bottom half jeans or joggers, thick socks, slippers. The house is draughty and I feel the cold, so I have a hoodie or even a blanket to hand which can be whipped away as and when needed. A couple of times I've had to dash into work unexpectedly, so being 90% work presentable was good.

tinkerbellvspredator · 01/11/2020 17:05

Leggings and t shirt/jumper mostly. Haven't worn any of my usual work dresses.
I was on a Zoom with one of our Ministers and my colleague leading the briefing was wearing a tshirt, so yeah it's gone a LOT more casual.

I bought these. OMG so lush. Not fussed on the look of them but I don't care they're so cosy
ScrapThatThen · 01/11/2020 17:28

People laugh when I wear my jackets just because I am fed up of casual - so I agree, dress down rather than up.
