Decent leather handbag

Reading another thread got me thinking about handbags.
At the moment I’m sporting a changing bag as I have a baby and there’s no point carrying two bags. When that glorious moment arrives where I no longer have to lug nappies and all the other bumph that comes with a baby; I’d like to treat myself to a lovely new bag.
I’m not one for labels but don’t mind spending money on something well made. It would have to be durable as it would be my general every day bag.
It would be lovely to have something made in the uk but not a deal breaker.
Any recommendations?

I bought a beautiful small soft cross over strap Osprey years and years ago from TK Maxx and it is still perfect. I love it.
More recently I went for the Coach Osprey. Also a thing of beauty.

Coach Prarie. I have Osprey on the brain!

Londonmummy66 · 12/10/2020 17:33

I really recommend a browse in TK Maxx as they always have loads of Osprey and often Aspinall (as well as designer brands although you do have to watch out that they are not cheaper outlet ones).

I love a Mulberry Bayswater which is a good way to carry baby stuff more elegantly as you can fit loads in it. You can often pick them up on Ebay if they are too expensive new. I got a fab navy croc effect one for £400 that was immaculate.

I really rate Jigsaw bags. I have three and they are all fantastic. I tend to wait for the sale.

Are Radley any good?

IloveJudgeJudy · 12/10/2020 20:34

Personally, I'm not a fan of Radley. The leather isn't as good as Coach or Aspinal. Having said that, DM bought a Radley hobo bag last year. It isn't as nice as my Coach hobo, but the leather isn't too bad.

I would say for the toddler stage you probably need two bags: first is a small one for heading out with the buggy, where all the toddler crap goes in the buggy but you want to keep your valuables close. Definitely choose a crossbody style as it makes toddler wrangling a lot easier.

Then a large one (backpack probably) for when you are going out without the buggy.

The toddler crap is slightly less voluminous than the baby crap but not much less I’m afraid!

Another vote for Mimi Berry. If you sign up to their mailing list you get 10% off and they also have sample sales a couple of times a year, I've had some fab bargains. You can often get good condition pre-loved ones on eBay, too.

I’ve just bought this

I have Fossil, Coach and Kate Spade leather bags and would recommend them all! Fossil has to be my favourite and they have great offers on

QueenOllie · 12/10/2020 21:44

Check Quidco for cash back too, I got a fair amount on my coach bag

minipie · 14/10/2020 19:01

Humph, I just had two fossil bags arrive and they are meh. I will return and make a pilgrimage to Mimi Berry/Kate Thingummy as mentioned up thread. At least Fossil do free returns!

@Zinnia - we have the same taste in bags!

She’s not well known but I really rate Hands of Tym, I have a gorgeous handmade in England suede bag.

CharlottesComplicatedWeb · 14/10/2020 19:40

I’ve always been a “big slouchy bag with everything but the kitchen sink in it” but in order to give my 58yr old shoulder a rest, am thinking of a small grab bag with just essentials...

Like this.

I may have had bad luck with the coach bag I bought but I found it got tatty looking v quickly. I’ve had better quality cheaper bags. Have a Francesco Biasia bag atm which I got off eBay and I love it.
