Can anyone recommend a hair dye that I could use to do just a few highlights at home please?

I'm on a tight budget and after spending £25 for a 10 minute dry trim last month I've decided to have a go at doing my hair myself.

I had a long bob (just to my shoulders) and with the help of DH I've lopped a good 3 inches off. Its now a blunt, chin length bob and it actually looks pretty decent!

I've got mousy brown hair and all I want is a couple of highlights to frame my face and then a few running through to the ends underneath my top layer of hair.

Can anyone recommend a good box dye please?

Jerome russell maximum highlight kit. Comes with cap, tray, hook, brush, and the stuff. I always use this, so easy! It's about £4

Just had a brainwave to keep the hair i cut off today and test it on that first, see how light it goes and how long i should keep it on for.

Oh girl, I want to say don’t do it although it seems really easy

You need bleach not dye. If you bleach your hair yourself at home (not recommended) using salon brands would give a better result in terms of colour and condition. So being on a tight budget is a bit of a contradiction, you need bleach, toner, foils, brushes, purple shampoo and deep conditioner for upkeep etc

If you’re on a budget, it would be best to stay your natural colour as highlights are expensive to maintain

Frappuccinofan ah the voice of reason 😄 I know I may well be heading for a disaster but I won't be seeing anyone for a while so it feels like a good time to experiment. I'll come back and let you all know how it goes!

Fair enough. If you go for it, please post pics Grin Worst case scenario you can always dye it back! The strand test idea is good.
