Is this ok for a date?

I don't have time to order anything online, this was the only thing I could find shopping today and I obviously couldn't try it on until I got home and now I'm panicking that I look like I'm going to a fancy conference and I have nothing else to wear

Is this ok for a date?

Depends on where you are going but to me it looks a bit too 'try hard' or desperate ...pick me pick me (you know the donkey in Shrek that leaps around hoping to be picked.

It looks great on you just not a first date thing

GameSetMatch · 27/09/2020 18:35

You look absolutely stunning! But maybe it’s a little too much? I love it but your date might think you’ve gone a bit overboard. I agree with the person who suggested black tights, boots and leather jacket.

Nacreous · 27/09/2020 18:38

You look stunning and I definitely wouldn't would imagine your date will be thinking about anything other than how fantastic you look.

Lucked · 27/09/2020 18:42

Yeah you look fantastic. I do think boots would be better but if those are the choices go with the black shoes.

YellowUsername · 27/09/2020 18:43

Oh no it's not a first date, sorry if I gave that impression. This will make the thread sound really pathetic but its a date with my husband. Its our first date since before I had a baby 18 months ago so I wanted to make an effort and I'm feel weirdly self conscious about it. He's only seen me in pyjamas and joggers really for the last year so I wanted to buy something special.

The dress does look gorgeous. Re the shoes, it really depends on your normal style. I have friends who would wear a dress and shoes like that for a night out in a high street bar as standard. I would never wear shoes like that, I might wear the dress but the accessories would be very different, such as chunky boots or trainers.
What is your normal style, OP?

bramleyapplesandcustard · 27/09/2020 18:44

It's with your husband?! Wear the heels!!!!

blisstwins · 27/09/2020 18:45

He is not going to. Price the shoes or any other detail. You look gorgeous in that dress. Enjoy!

YellowUsername · 27/09/2020 18:45

But this is what I'm worried about! We're having to meet at the restaurant and I don't want to look like I'm trying too hard and it just be embarrassing. It feels like a first date it's been so long!! I haven't worn heels for two years!!

russetred · 27/09/2020 18:46

That's a great dress and you look stunning! Prefer the velvet shoes but it's totally up to you, wear whatever YOU like.

NerrSnerr · 27/09/2020 18:47

You look absolutely stunning and I love both pairs of shoes. I don't think you look try hard at all and would wear the same if I had your figure.

MarshaBradyo · 27/09/2020 18:47

Oh go for it!

Wear what you like most. It’s with your dh. He’ll love it.

Casmama · 27/09/2020 18:48

You look gorgeous OP. I would go with the velvet heels.
I don't think for a second your dh will think you have tried too hard- I think he will be delighted.
Have a great time.

GinnieHempstock · 27/09/2020 18:48

I was a bit sceptical at first, as I thought it was a first date (sorry, obviously didn’t rtft).
First dat with DH post baby? Wear the dress and blow him away. You look fabulous.

sesquipedalia · 27/09/2020 18:48

You've just had a baby?? Wow. You look amazing (she says sucking gut in....)

shivermetimbers77 · 27/09/2020 18:50

Lucky husband! You look great :) Wear whatever shoes you like best. Have fun!

WokesFromHome · 27/09/2020 18:51

He's a bloody lucky man. OP, you are a stunner.
Not overboard at all. If you've got it (and you have) flaunt it Wink

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 27/09/2020 18:51

You look bloody fabulous, and that dress is perfect for a date with your husband - enjoy!

DiscombobulatedAf · 27/09/2020 18:59

You look incredible! I prefer the velvet shoes. Your husband is going to love it I’m sure

Lucked · 27/09/2020 19:03

He is going to love it! He is going to be smiling from ear to ear when he sees you!

Tweetypietwo · 27/09/2020 19:10

Lovely outfit OP! You look great, definitely wear the necklace, really compliments the dress ! Your husband will love it i am sure!

AnaViaSalamanca · 27/09/2020 19:12

I love it @YellowUsername, actually with the white shoes as it makes it a bit more modern. But might be a bit chilly?

Where is the dress from?

Myshitisreal · 27/09/2020 19:15

Ohhh I thought like first date. Go as yourself, heels and all. He will say wow when you walk in. Make sure he's there first so you can make an entrance 😂😘

I would still wear boots and tights for my husband but then I'm a known scruffball 😂

YellowUsername · 27/09/2020 19:16

Thank you for the help! It's very out of my comfort zone so I was having a bit of a confidence crisis but this thread was a massive boost so thanks for taking the time. For anyone interested I bought the dress in new look today for £23, I bought the necklace to match which was £5 in accessorize! Smile
