If you work in a school or similar would you wear classic DMs to work?

I have found a really lovely wine colored Whistles dress in the charity shop today. It's skated style but smart, absolutely perfect for work, and I think it would go really well with thick black tights and my DM boots of a similar shade.

My school is fairly easy going over dress code - no denim is about as far as it goes, so we have everything from suits to fleeces and chinos, leather shirt dresses and Lindybop hoop skirts. For some reason I can't square the circle with Docs though. No idea why - maybe it's because they're still irrevocably linked with my own teenage rebellion. What do you think?

Primary or secondary? I work in a primary and would happily wear DMs. My partner teacher wears them regularly. But I’ve often got the impression that the dress code for teachers in secondary schools is more formal.

Secondary!

My last school I definitely wouldn't have worn them as it was very formal, but this one isn't so much. We even had a TA in an Adidas tshirt style dress once! When I started I had to get rid of all my officey type trousers as I looked as though I was perpetually on my way to an interview compared to everyone else

I'm in secondary and I would wear them

Yeah

Depends on the school, but I would, yes!

Sounds like you will look fabulous 👌

Yeah , dms are fine. When I was a primary TA I wore them with tea dresses and tights all of the time. I think my style is a little 90s perhaps.

As long as you're clean and professional you're okay.

Quite a few teachers in my school wear them (secondary). They look great. I may have to relive my teenage years and buy some!

Our dress code was no denim and no strappy tops btw.

I wear Mary Jane DMs in primary.

I'm secondary, and I've seen a few teachers wear them. I've also noticed lots more teachers wearing trainers, because we are moving around so much.

I wouldn’t personally, but our female deputy head does.

emma6776 · 28/09/2020 19:10

Our headteacher does (Primary) & looks super cool.

Half of KS4 and KS5 wear them.

I think you'll be fine.
