How to be a yummy mummy?

Does anyone else feel like this? I have two children and can't shift the weight, I just enjoy chocolate and cakes too much. I am not fat but not slim either, my little boy asked me the other day if I had too much to eat and looked at my tummy. I also don't feel pretty anymore, just wearing boring jumpers and jeans all day, feel quite frumpy at times. I know I should probably go to the gym, lose weight etc to feel better. Has anyone felt bad and has got some advise for me?

get yourself to the gym. but don't go for weight loss, go for fitness, then you won't berate yourself if you don't lose weight quickly. i find the endorphins alone make me feel better after a workout, and give me more energy. have you got a friend you can go with for a workout buddy? i'm doing first sesh with friend tom night, looking forward to it. but otherwise i go on my own, do treadmill, stairs, bike and some weights. (in the ladies gym) and have just started sunday aftie abs class, while DH looks after DS.

get in some fruit for snacks, DO start the day with a good breakfast (porridge, or special k, keeps you going). buy very expensive choc's so that you will only have a few, or maybe those multi snack packs of choc and limit to 1 per day. or try some chromium supplement, i've used that befofre and takes away the sugar craving.

oh then get a fab new hair cut and colour, and put on at least a bit of eyeshadow, liner, mascara and lip gloss every day. it only takes 5mins.

You need a seriously high income but no job
Vast amounts of plastic surgery
Personal stylist
Army of staff, personal trainers etc

Yummy mummy not possible without this stuff, otherwise maybe aim for presentable mummy?

Lose weight and you'll feel more like the make up and dressing better side of things.
Walk more, cycle, take the stairs not the lift
sex burns calories and makes you feel better about yourself
Don't eat between meals
Join a gym/go swimming
Don't have crap in the fridge or cupboard and then you cant eat it
Cut back on booze
Get your haircut
But some nice underwear

Drink lots of water. Good for your skin and digestion. Drink water before eating so you eat less.

Agree that losing weight may help esp with self-esteem. A flattering haircut, some make-up (doesn't have to be expensive), exercise and fresh air. I don't do gyms but I walk a lot - I have a dog who needs lots of exercise and I walk my kids to school every day. Then, think positive thoughts. Don't focus on what you haven't got but concentrate on what you have. And treat yourself occasionally. I find that girls' nights out do wonders and make me feel human again

not so posh then cod.

colours are great as a pick me up.

allhallows · 09/10/2007 21:40

TOTALLY agree with DarthVader.

Desiderata · 09/10/2007 21:43

Instead of actually going into the gym, why don't you walk there and walk straight back again.

Sorry, but it's always made me laugh when people drive to a gym.

allhallows · 09/10/2007 21:45

A yummy is an entirely different breed from a fit, attractive, reasonably well-groomed mummy. Not necessary to have plastic surgery but working hard at doing nothing definitely helps the image.

BrownSuga · 09/10/2007 21:47

i go to gym on way home from work, hence driving there. if i waited to get home, then tried to get motivated to go out for a walk, it wouldn't happen, i'd just sit on the couch and eat a box of choc's! so do whatever is easiest to get yourself exercising.
