How to wear a hairband and not look childish

As the title says really - how do you wear a hairband and make it look good? I have shoulder length curly hair and wear glasses. I've seen lots of pictures of people with both these features wearing headscarves and headbands and looking really nice. If I put one on I feel like I look 10 years old. What's the trick?? Anyone care to share a pic of themselves successfully wearing one to give me some ideas?

Have you watched the home edit? One of the women on that - Joanna - wears one a lot. I wear mine the same way she wears hers - so I sort of just place it on my hair about an inch or two from hairline and leave a few strands naturally falling at the front of the band (ie I don't use the band to pull my hair away from my face, just as an accessory). Hope that makes sense. I'll see if I can find a pic of what I mean. And I wear it in similar colours to my outfit.

I don't know what they are called but you can get stretchy things with comb teeth that tie under you hair at the back of your neck. Usually black. They don't look childish but hold your hair back in a similar way. Maybe worth a try.

@Snipples, I've been binge watching THE this week and have been loving Joanna's headbands and jumpers too! I love how they are coordinated.

OP, try what Snipples suggested about leaving a bit of room for front sections of hair. I haven't - just been putting it right behind my ears and was also feeling six years old so when I next wear mine I'm trying a la Joanna. I don't think having curly hair or wearing glasses will make a difference to the look.

I also reckon a contrast colour to hair looks especially good. I have a plain black one and mid brown hair which isn't ideal, so want a bright colour or white/cream to pop out.

This is me in mine. My hair is a lot longer than Joannas.

I also absolutely love her jumpers. And just generally how she styles them with her jeans.
