Do you colour your own hair or have it done at the hairdressers?

I have a light brown colour at the hairdressers. In lockdown, I managed to dye my own for the first time to cover the greys. I'm just wondering whether to carry on with home colouring to save a few pounds. My salon used to charge £75 for cut and colour. My hairdresser has left where I used to go so I'm thinking of trying somewhere new and colouring at home. What's the pros and cons of colouring at home?

I think it depends. I use home dye but I have a "block" colour and don't dye it too far from my natural colour.
I imagine for people wanting high/low lights and/or going colours further from their nature colour then hairdressers would be better.

I couloir my own, but it is just to cover greys so my natural colour, nothing fancy. My hairdresser told me what to buy from Sally’s, and I use two colours, mixed with peroxide, rather than a box dye.

I henna my hair which is naturally auburn, the henna brings out the highlights and covers the (although so far quite limited) greys. My hairdresser always compliments the colour and condition of my hair. She asked if I’d had balayage in it - it’s just natural highlights and different tones.

I wouldn’t do a box dye myself though, personally, as I feel often they colour can look quite uniform and ‘flat’ if that makes sense.

Yes I felt mine looked flat too when I dyed it. I've decided to have it done at the hairdressers for a treat as we may be in lockdown soon! Thank you for your replies. I just wondered what most people did with just a one colour dye and nothing too fancy

I do my own. Bog standard L'Oreal Preference followed by purple shampoo. Hair is mousy brown but my greys are actually pure white so there's no need for me to fork out for highlights - they are already there!

I did mine during lockdown, and thought it looked ok. But I ended up with a totally different shade at the front compared with the back. Went back to the hairdresser last week and it looks so much better. I had olaplex at the same time. Go to the hairdresser.
