help me find a winter coat (a long list of boxes to tick)

  • budget up to £180
  • waterproof
  • grey or black
  • no fur on the hood
  • not too short and not too long
  • no down
  • simple clean lines
  • not frumpy (I know, I know).

For the record - I am 5'11 and slim.

I have considered the Seasalt Plant Hunter but unsure about the hood. I have a lot of hair and I need the hood to give a good head cover to keep my hair dry. if anyone has this coat can you shed light on it? And it is a bit frumpy too

I also like the Helle by Didrikson but not sure if this is warm enough... seems to be a light winter jacket and maybe more suitable for Autum?

any similar coats that are worth checking out?

I bought the Seasalt Polperro 3 in 1 last winter. I wanted similar to you and have been really happy. It had an inner layer that you can take out on warmer days. It's not bulky but still really warm and very waterproof!! Hoods are always an issue with me and they come up pretty big so comes right over.
Although that Didrikson one is really nice too 😆

Also to say I was worried about frumpiness but the Polperro has a drawstring at the waist which I think makes it more "trendy"

thanks, will check it out!

I’ve just bought a Helle. I’m 5’ 4” and it is just above knee length. It’s warmer than I thought it would be but not as much as the Tanja and Frida which I also bought ordered. It’s a coat, not a rain jacket, very solid and well put together - would have been perfect for last weekend.

Oh and the hood is awesome. Proper storm flap.

LightOfAThousandStars · 08/10/2020 10:25

@Trickleg how does the sizing come up on the Didriksons? Are they fitted?

Trickleg · 08/10/2020 13:49

I’m a UK size 14-16 and the Didriksons 40 fits me well, with enough room for a sweater underneath I think. The Helle is slightly fitted, the other two not so much. None of them are exactly hip but the Helle looks slightly more contemporary than the others.

Thanks that helps a lot, I really like the style of the Helle, it may be another one to add to the list of those to try out Smile
